The image of Pierce and Seraphina walking side-by-side through the hospital lobby flashed in Riley's mind, followed by the doctor profiles on the wall that perfectly matched Pierce's video call.

Her eyes dimmed.

A dull ache throbbed in her chest.

She lowered her gaze, remaining silent.

Sebastian frowned slightly. "Why aren't you speaking?"

Thinking about how she had been navigating her pregnancy alone while Pierce deceived her to be by Seraphina's side, waves of grievance and heartbreak overwhelmed her, and tears began to fall uncontrollably.

She immediately turned her head away, unwilling to let Sebastian see her in such a pathetic state. Her hands clenched tightly under the covers, using the pain of her nails digging into her palms to force the emotions back down.

"I want to see Pierce."

Sebastian watched the woman cry silently yet try so hard to endure it. A flicker passed through his eyes. He rubbed his fingers together, remaining silent for a few seconds before turning to leave.

A moment later, Arthur Sr. and Beatrice Landon entered the room.

Arthur Sr. leaned on his gold-tipped cane beside the bed. "As long as you're awake."

Riley kept her eyes downcast. "I'm sorry for making you worry, Grandpa Arthur."

"Just rest," Arthur Sr. said, turning and leaving immediately after.

Once he was gone, Beatrice marched up to the bed, scowling. "I told you not to run around, but you refused to listen. You caused a massive hemorrhage, and you brought this all upon yourself!"

Riley snapped her head up, glaring at Beatrice.

Beatrice was taken aback by Riley's icy stare. Riley had always been submissive; this was the first time she had seen such a look in her eyes.

But thinking about Pierce's current predicament, Beatrice's anger flared up instantly. "Am I wrong? All you do is drag Pierce down. Thank God the child is fine, or you'd be a sinner to the Landon family!"
