Miles turned to the nurse. "Leave the consent form with me. Tell the doctors to do everything they can. I'm going to call some friends at other hospitals to source O-type blood immediately."
"Alright, but hurry. The blood in there will only last another twenty minutes." The nurse rushed back into the operating room.
Miles immediately started making calls to secure blood. Two contacts confirmed they had supply, but they were too far from Aegis General. One would take over fifty minutes, and the other an hour and a half.
Even running every red light, they wouldn't make it in time.
What was he supposed to do?
No blood meant no life.
She was so young, and she had a tiny life growing inside her.
Two lives. That was two lives!
Miles stared at the "Surgery in Progress" sign, his eyes turning red with panic. Everything had been fine just moments ago. They had been talking about what to eat for lunch, so how did it suddenly turn into a severe hemorrhage?
Urgent footsteps echoed down the corridor.
Miles looked up to see a man in a white dress shirt sprinting toward them, his face twisted in anxiety as he desperately yelled, "Riley!"
"Are you Riley's husband?" Miles asked.
"I am." Pierce grabbed Miles's arm tightly. "How is she?"
"She's suffering a severe hemorrhage. The O-type blood in the hospital's blood bank is only enough to sustain her for twenty minutes. The fastest I can get blood from elsewhere will take forty minutes. Without blood... she's not going to make it..."
Miles's voice cracked hoarsely by the end.
Remembering the paperwork, Miles quickly handed the consent form to Pierce. "You need to sign this."
The man, usually as steady as a mountain, was now shaking uncontrollably as he gripped the pen.
Pierce forced himself to remain calm. After signing it, his mind raced.
The Landon family's private hospital was too far away as well. He couldn't make it. What could he do?
There had to be another way.
Suddenly, he remembered Sebastian was still in Riverport. Perhaps he had a way.
Pierce immediately pulled out his phone and dialed Sebastian's number. "Sebastian, Riley is hemorrhaging at Aegis General. She desperately needs O-type blood. Can you find a way to get it here in twenty minutes?"
"Wait."
The man offered only a single word before hanging up.
Pierce gripped his phone in a panic.
'Wait' meant he could do it, right?
Yes, he definitely could.
He was the immensely powerful Sebastian St. John.
While waiting, Pierce asked Miles why Riley had suddenly hemorrhaged.
Miles was completely bewildered himself, recounting the events of the day word for word.
Hearing the story, Pierce plunged into deep agony and crushing guilt.
It was because of him.
All because of him.
I'm sorry, Riley. I'm so sorry.
By the time Sebastian arrived with a team of doctors, Pierce was sitting on the floor with his head in his hands, looking completely shattered and pathetic.
Sebastian spoke calmly with Miles, then arranged for the doctors who had brought the blood to coordinate with the surgical team inside.
