Chapter 243
Ellie’s POV
The moment I saw her standing there, I turned to leave. Of course, Vivian’s heels clicked against the floor as she fell into step behind me.
“Hello, sister. Can we talk?” she asked.
“I’m busy, Vivian.”
“I just want to talk.”
“And I just said I’m busy.” I pushed through the door at the end of the hall and kept moving.
She followed me out anyway. Because apparently no one bothered to listen to what I said around here.
“Look,” she said, coming around to stand in front of me so she blocked my path, “I couldn’t help overhearing.”
“Great.”
“And I think-”
“I really don’t care what you think.”
Vivian pressed a hand to her chest in mock offense. “Is that really any way to talk to your sister?”
“If my sister was absolutely anyone else on the planet, then no,” I said, turning to walk the other direction. “But since I’m stuck with you, then yes, I think it’s perfectly appropriate.”
Vivian scoffed. “Listen, Ellie. I’m trying to help you!”
“Help me how?” I laughed. “You’re literally just following me around when I’ve made it clear I want to be left alone.”
“If you want Dominic back on your good side, then you can’t walk into a situation you know nothing about and try to boss everyone around.”
I stopped walking. Turned slowly and looked at her.
“I know nothing about it,” I repeated.
Vivian shrugged one shoulder. “You said yourself you read it in a book.”
“And how do you know the situation so well?”
“Because I was in the meeting,” she said simply.

Excluded from a war meeting. Because Dominic had decided that Vivian was the more appropriate person to sit in my place.
Deep down, a small part of me almost wondered if I had done this to myself. If, during all of my pushing and pushing, I had finally pushed Dominic right to the brink and made him choose Vivian for a second time…
No.
I was not going to wallow in this. There was still a hope for the pack, even if Dominic and Vivian were undermining me at every turn-even if I was undermining myself. This was so much more important than festivals. This was about saving lives, and I was not going to sit around and cry again just because I felt excluded and alone.
