The Luna Queen's Rebirth (Ellie and Dominic) novel Chapter 455

Chapter 455

Rather than answering, he kissed my forehead, then my temple, then rested his cheek against my hair for a second. I could feel his breath gently fanning against my neck, right where he had marked me once before.

The scar was still there, old and faded, barely more than a few silvery marks against my flesh.

I didn’t want to look at the one Vivian had given him, but I forced myself to look anyway. I gently tugged his collar aside with one finger and hissed through my teeth when I saw the red, ugly thing marring his skin.

“I’m sorry she did that to you,” I whispered, pulling my head back just enough to look up at him. “Which reminds me–if she finds us like this-”

“She won’t.” He stepped back, putting some distance between us. I felt suddenly cold and small and I hated it, but I understood why. “Ellie, I’m going to have her arrested. Tonight. Once and for all. Then…” His eyes went to my neck, and his gaze darkened, almost hungry. “I want to mark you again. I want to erase what she tried to create.”

My pulse spiked at the thought. It was something that had terrified me for so long, the idea of binding myself to him. When he initially did it in this lifetime, it felt more like a shackle than a bond.

But now, it felt so natural it almost hurt to think that I had gone so long thinking it was anything but the most perfect thing in the world.

“Before any of that,” he said, “I need your help making sure she can’t retaliate.”

I nodded, understanding. “If we cause a scene in there,” I said, nodding my head toward the door, where the sounds of the banquet were still spilling out into the night in a constant stream of voices and music, “it could be bad for Goldenveil. The pack is new, still getting its footing after decades of hiding. I can’t do that to my father. Not in front of the Alpha King.”

At the mention of Alpha Monroe, Dominic’s jaw ticked, and he ran his hand through his hair. “I’ve got a bone to pick with him, too. But not tonight.”

I wanted to ask what he meant, but he went on before I could, “But you’re right. We can’t cause a scene. If we want to do this properly, we should draw her away from the banquet, where your father’s people can arrest her quietly,”

I nodded, thinking back to the day I naively chose not to press charges against Vivian, and how my father said I needed to be less accommodating. I understood that now that one of the people I cared about most in the world had been hurt by her for the last time.
