Chapter 471
Ellie’s POV
My apartment had never been built for two people. One room, one bathroom, a kitchen counter, a table that seated two if they didn’t mind rubbing elbows the entire time, and a bed that had felt enormous when I was the only one sleeping in it.
Dominic moved his things in anyway, all two bags of them, and somehow the Alpha of one of the largest packs in the south folded himself into my little life above the clinic like he’d been there all along.
We fell into a routine without discussing it. He woke first, every single day, and had the fire going and the kettle on before I’d even pried my eyes open. I opened the clinic; he took over the back table with his campaign correspondence, writing letters in that small slanted handwriting and swearing quietly at the lack of phone signal.
In the evenings he chopped firewood for my woodstove and I made soup and usually Amelia or Nico or anyone else who was bored would stop by to chat.
It was nice. Normal, even.
And in between all that normalcy, we couldn’t keep our hands off each other.
The renewed bond ran hot and wide open between us at all hours, and it had turned the both of us shameless. He’d send me an image through it in the middle of a workday, me with my braid undone, usually, and I’d fumble whatever I was holding while my face went beet red in front of a patient with a head cold.
I got him back one afternoon so effectively that he walked into the doorframe. My wolf had never been more smug about anything in her life.
Within the first week, we’d christened every surface in that apartment. The couch. The kitchen counter. The table. The wall beside the door, the night we came back late from the bar and couldn’t make it the extra ten steps to the bed.
The first newspaper came up the mountain nine days after the caravan left.
Nico brought it, sprinting the whole way from the gates, waving it over his head like a flag. He burst into the clinic without knocking and slapped it down on the front desk between me and the throat lozenges.
