The Luna Queen's Rebirth (Ellie and Dominic) novel Chapter 478

Chapter 478

Ellie’s POV

I’d never thought of myself as claustrophobic. I’d spent much of my childhood crammed into closets or under my bed or in the hollows of trees, anywhere I could read in peace, and now I lived in a one-room apartment that was hardly big enough for one person, let alone two.

Being here, stuffed into a cave that didn’t even have enough room to stand up straight or draw in a full breath with the way the wall pressed against my front and back in equal measure, changed my mind about that.

My wolf would have gone insane, were it not for the gentle thrums Dominic occasionally sent through the bond. Comforting. Calm. If it weren’t for him, I might have backed out of this a long time ago.

But we kept going, forcing ourselves sideways between the rocks, relying on nothing but Bastian’s headlamp bobbing ahead and the fact that the tunnel hadn’t closed up entirely yet.

That didn’t last long before a pinch came. It forced us onto our bellies. Ahead of me, Bastian fought to get through with his broad shoulders, grunting and swearing under his breath.

I watched his boots disappear, and then it was my turn.

I gulped and lowered myself down, pulling myself along as my hands scraped on the rough stone. I made it halfway through the pinch before the mountain closed around me. Stone against my back and belly at once, my cheek turned flat against the rock. Panic overwhelmed me.

I was stuck.

“Ellie.” Dominic’s mental voice was calmer than ever, somehow. A moment later, I felt a hand on my ankle, warm even through the thick layers I was wearing. “Breathe out. All the way. You’ll be okay.”

I emptied my lungs, and my ribs shrank just enough to let me wriggle forward, the stone dragging at my coat. Bastian’s hand caught my wrist and hauled, and I came through the gap into open air, gasping, tears stinging

my eyes.

Well. Open was a strong word.

But the chamber beyond had a ceiling I couldn’t touch and walls a good ten paces apart, and after that passage, it felt like a ballroom. I sat against my pack and concentrated on breathing while Dominic squeezed out of the gap behind me. Bastian hauled him out, and he stumbled onto his hands and knees, breathless and shaking his

head.

“Never again,” he said.
