The Luna Queen's Rebirth (Ellie and Dominic) novel Chapter 489

Chapter 489

Ellie’s POV

“Absolutely not.’

Dominic said it before I’d even fully gotten the words out. Behind us, Bastian was on his belly, shining the light through the tunnel to see if he could get a glimpse of what was on the other side. But Dominic was only looking

at me.

“Absolutely not,” he repeated.

“But-”

“No.”

I pursed my lips and looked over at Bastian, climbing to his feet now, dusting off the front of his pants and jacket.

“The tunnel runs straight for a short stretch,” he said, “then kinks left. I can’t see beyond that. But the cold air and the noise makes me think it opens up.”

“Yeah, into another chamber like this one,” Dominic pointed out.

“Actually, judging from the sound, I think the water is running into something rather large.” Bastian looked at me. “It might be right here, Ellie. Just on the other side of this wall.”

Dominic pushed himself to his feet. “Then we’ll dig through-❞

“And risk taking the whole chamber down with us in it?” I asked. “No, Dominic. It’s safer this way.’

My mate’s jaw clenched so tight I could see the muscle feather, but I held his gaze, quietly daring him to try and

stop me.

If the fountain of youth from the folklore wasn’t on the other side of that wall, then something else was. An underground waterfall. A grotto no living soul had ever laid eyes on. Either way, the trail hadn’t run cold after all. It had just gotten smaller. And it might just lead us to something amazing.

“Someone needs to get through there,” Bastian pointed out. “Our ancestors sealed this wall from somewhere. There could be a mechanism on the other side. Another entrance. Something.”

“Someone,” Dominic repeated flatly. “You mean Ellie. The one with the cracked ribs, the broken hand, and the concussion.”

“She’s the only one who fits.”

“She almost died.’

“I’m right here,” I said. “And I’m volunteering, and it’s not up to either of you.”

Dominic’s fear rippled through the bond. I took his hands before he could start lecturing me, because I knew he would try to hold onto me like a lifeline. After all we had been through, I couldn’t blame him.

“I know,” I said. “It’s dangerous. I’m hurt. And you can’t follow me in there if something goes wrong.”

“Then why-”

“Because I’ve survived two timelines, Dominic.” I squeezed his fingers. “I can take care of myself. I’ll be careful. I promise.”
