Observing Nikolai take off his cloak and put it over on a cushion by the fireplace, Ophelia groaned and sat on the bed. Noticing that she was becoming lost in her thoughts, he put his hands in his pockets and gave her a piercing look.

“FireStorm.” Nikolai called gently. “Are you..”

“When did you become aware that I was the target?” Ophelia immediately questioned.

“Right after we arrived at the frozen pond.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I waited for them to attack because I wanted to be certain. Up until the arrow was shot, I had no idea if you or I were the target.

Ophelia swallowed, wrapping her arms around her body tensely. “Do you

have a scent?”

“A fire dragon.” Nikolai casually answered and moved in her direction.

Ophelia pressed her lips. “Father wants me to return.”

“He genuinely desires your demise.” Nikolai remarked and sat down next to her, resting his head on her shoulder and keeping his eyes closed. “He wouldn’t have given the command for someone to shoot an arrow in your direction if he didn’t.”

Ophelia murmured, “He wants me back probably to punish me, he wouldn’t want to kill me, at least not in Celestia,” and flashed Nikolai a little smile.

“It’s not Rodion, it’s Esteban. Rodion doesn’t care one bit about his family, he and my father are different in that aspect.”

“True…” Ophelia nodded, pursing her lips. Then, she giggled. “You pronounce my father’s name like you know him so well. After almost killing him, are you certain you haven’t gone to Fireria?”

She considered it odd that he didn’t respond to her statements. Why, after being away for three hundred years, did Nikolai know so much about her?

“What was Esmeralda trying to say?” She questioned as she watched the

flash across their crimson eyes, which then faded and were replaced ullness.

olai, what connection do you have to my memories? I don’t recall thing other than the time I injured Lev when I was a child down to this

Moment.”

“Why are you suddenly asking me this?”

“Because I believe you already knew me before we met in that peculiar dream.” Ophelia said firmly and he pulled his head away from her shoulder, glancing at her with a slightly confused expression.

“We did.”

Despite being in disbelief, Ophelia kept a neutral demeanor. She needed an answer, but she wasn’t prepared for him to come clean so quickly. He ought to at least tell lies. Should he not?

“You…”

“You want to know the truth?” Nikolai questioned with a raised eyebrow. He appeared to want her to say “No” to him.

“Yes.” She nodded. She was curious.

“I’m

tell you.” Nikolai muttered before rising. He poked his

fattoo and stroked his neck.

Ophelia sighed. “Nikolai.” And stood up.

“You will despise me.” Exhaling, Nikolai moved away from her. He wasn’t anticipating her asking these questions out of the blue. He intentionally contaminated her memory in order to conceal what she had seen and learned about him and his family. He had a purpose for doing that.

“Nikolai.” Ophelia called as she moved in his direction. She was perplexed by

unexpected response, which only piqued her interest.

wandered across to the table in front of the fireplace. On a tray, ere were two tiny white marble glasses and a jar of liquor.

“Would you like a drink?” She asked him and he turned her looking surprised, slowly dropping his hand.

“Drink?” He asked, raising his brows.

She made a toothy grin. “One drink, one secret.”

Nikolai gently nodded.

They sat on the floor in front of one another, separated only by a table. Nikolai watched in awe as Ophelia carefully poured the liquor into the cups.

“You pour liquor like you drink every day,” He said in an amused tone.

Ophelia regarded him, holding back a smile. “You don’t know a lot about

me, Nikolai Novikov,”

Nikolai smirked. If only she knew.

“You’ve never had alcohol, right?” Ophelia inquired with a hint of surprise.

“I like blood and wine better.” Ophelia pointed the cup at Nikolai as he

“Then join me and drink.” She told him with excitement, and he took the cup from her, gradually tightening his hold.

“I’ll start by asking you.” Nikolai said and she promptly drained the alcohol from her marble cup, nodding and slamming the glass on the table with a satisfied sigh.

She had shocked Nikolai, who blinked shakingly. However, he couldn’t help bchuckle and shake his head at her beaming smile.

Nikolai smiled. “Let’s begin.”

Ophelia sternly cleared her throat. “Very then.”

“What was your real motivation for wanting to kill me?” Asked Nikolai.

Ophelia sighed. “Father… At every request to kill, he threatened to harm my mother or siblings if I disobeyed. He always threatens to hurt them if I disobey him, and I am aware of this. He would harm them without blinking.”
