The whine of the chilly wind resounded around the carriage wheels as they slid roughshod across the uneven forest floor leading to the castle.

The carriage was completely silent, until Vladmir shattered the hush with a short laugh.

Esmeralda and Ophelia gave him questioning looks.

“Oh!” Vladmir questioned as if he were unaware of their presence around him. “It all starts in five, four, three, two, one.”

Vladmir was propelled forward by the abrupt stop of the carriage, and he immediately banged his head against the hard wooden wall. He grimaced, rubbing his head, and pulled himself back to settle comfortably on the chair as Ophelia and Esmeralda giggled.

“What are you talking about?” Esmeralda laughed as she questioned.

There was a low howl at that very moment, which was unexpectedly followed by many others.

Ophelia’s eyes grew wider. “There are werewolves in this forest?”

“I want to know how long it takes to get to the castle.” Esmeralda questioned, her smile fading.

Vladmir nodded slightly and replied, “Soon.

“If there’s a connection between I and Nikolai that no one knows about, isn’t it supposed to be manifesting right now given that we are not that far apart from one another?” Ophelia asked slowly.

“I don’t really know, but all I know is that no one knows about it. You two need to keep your distance from one another if you want to avoid contracting any kind of chaos. That’s the only solution at the moment, at

least.” Vladimir murmured, his tone and demeanor turning grave once more.

“But why did you utter a phrase from a line of the Child of Doom’s

prophecy?” She had to inquire.

Vladmir pursed his lips and said nothing, but Ophelia was astute enough to infer his response from his omission.

“Nikolai is the child of doom?!” Esmeralda gasped.

dmir gulped and slowly nodded.

e carriage rocked again, but this time it came to a stop, and the door pened to reveal a dumbfounded Viktor.

“Why are you disclosing so much today?!” Viktor lost it.

“I said nothing; they came to the conclusion on their own.” Vladmir grumbled as he covered his face with his cloak’s hood.

Viktor sighed and shook his head. “Please tell me you’re kidding, Nikolai can’t be the child of doom, it’s just a stupid prophecy used to scare our souls out of our bodies.”

Esmeralda stood up and jumped out of the carriage, blowing air into her mouth. “I don’t know anything about the child of doom, but I know it’s a legend. Nikolai must be an offspring of a deity if he is a child of doom.”,

“Exactly.” Viktor nodded, gazing at Vladmir, whose eyes were wide. He couldn’t help but get affected by Vladmir’s words. The seer was always right!

“Right?” He asked once inore just to be sure.

“I don’t want to say anything in front of Nikolai’s wife.” Vladmir said, obscuring his face with his hands.

“Wife?!” Esmeralda and Viktor yelled as they stared at Ophelia, who was

king a false smile.

“No. That’s not how it is.” She nervously whispered.

“Oh my! I’m going to be an aunt soon!” Esmeralda joyfully exclaimed as she fiercely embraced Ophelia.

In horror, Viktor was stuck, his eyes moving slowly. “And I, an uncle?”

“Aww! Stop overreacting! They aren’t really married yet and yes! Nikolai is the child of doom. It is the reason why Alexander killed him!” Vladmir bursted out.

“What?” Ophelia asked in shock.

“Nikolai was killed by his father?” Esmeralda questioned slowly, shocked and incredulous.

Vladmir cried out. “I genuinely believe that I am disclosing too much tonight.”

In anger, Viktor rubbed his face. “You.. You! Goddess! Your lips need to be joined with adhesive.”

“If Nikolai was killed by his father then who…”

“He came back from the dead.” Vladmir interjected Esmeralda’s frantic

statements.

Ophelia swallowed. “Nikolai was killed… He didn’t tell me…”

“What would make him tell you? There were two main causes behind Nikolai’s death. Alexander found the opportunity thanks to you!” Vladmir yelled infuriatingly.

Ophelia tensed up. “What?”

When Vladmir realized what he had said, he carefully covered his lips with a hand. “I think I should stop talking right now,”

into a pulp. He then turned to face Ophelia, whose eyes were wide with utter disbelief. He held back from touching her, and when he saw that she was moving backwards slowly, he sighed and dropped his arms.

“Lia…” Esmeralda called, but she was speechless as to what to say to make Ophelia feel better.

“Ophelia, please calm down.” Viktor mumbled out of breath.

Ophelia blinked and shook her head slowly. Her head was beginning to hurt

oddess!” Viktor growled before scurrying towards the woods.

Hello! I must not be left alone here by you all.” Vladmir yelled, leaped out of the carriage, and sprinted after them into the woods.

The full moon was shining brightly without any clouds concealing it as Ophelia ran ahead as quickly as she could. When she reached a clearer area free of trees, she stopped, exhaled deeply, and looked up at the moon.

She turned her head toward the castle, which was still far away and hardly visible, and her eyes sparkled with gold before taking on their golden reptile-like form.

“Nikolai.” She exhaled and stood up straight, closing her eyes as the brisk wind ruffled through her hair and across her face.

Suddenly, in between his dark hair, his lips split abruptly, and his eyes shone scarlet. “Ophelia, come here to me.

n an abandoned prison beneath the castle, Rhaziel stood outside with Pain, watching Nikolai struggle to free himself from the chains that were tightly bound around his wrists and secured by the wall that they were fastened against.

His arm muscles strained with each tug from his effort, making him growl in rage.

Rhaziel groaned. Observing Nikolai in this state wounded him. He hoped Nikolai wouldn’t overturn the spell he had cast. Only someone from outside the prison was able to free him,

Nikolai screamed, “Get me out of here!”

“Only an hour.” Rhaziel told him quietly, but Nikolai’s eyes blazed with intense wrath.

Nikolai velled, “It’s already been an hour!”
