Nikolai bit his lower lip, trying to process her words. “Child of doom?”

Ophelia nodded. “Two paths equals two mates.”

“But I am not the child of doom.” Nikolai whispered, surprised by her words. “The child of doom is an offspring of a deity.”

Ophelia smiled. Esmeralda was right. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

Nikolai’s eyes widened at her sudden question. “Tell you…”

“You erased my memories because I saw something I shouldn’t have seen. What did I do to give your father the chance to murder you?”

“Ophelia… Who..” he trailed off with a frown. “That chatterbox seer.”

“Is this true?”

Nikolai whispered gently, “FireStorm,” as he slowly traced his fingertips across her cheek. “Leave the past behind.”

“But you passed away.”

“But I’m right here in front of you, alive and well.”

“You came back from the dead.”

Nikolai sighed. “It wasn’t all that bad.”

“Nikolai!”

“Firestorm, I warned you not to be alarmed. If you’re worrying about the past, it’s utterly pointless. Focus on the here and now, on me.”

Ophelia buried her face in his neck and screamed loudly, “Lai Lai,” in exasperation. Her nostrils were overwhelmed with the scent of blood and his strong, minty scent, which caused her to sigh deeply in an effort to calm

herself. She wanted to cry for some reason, but she couldn’t. As a result, the only movement her body could produce was her fingers twitching on his exposed skin.

“Be calm.” Nikolai muttered, wrapping his arms around her. He could hear her heart pounding and felt her fingers shaking on his shoulders.

He called tenderly, “Ophelia,” and she raised her head to look at him. She parted her lips and gave him a reluctant look, her crimson eyes remained fixed on him. He was waiting for her to speak whatever was going through her mind. Truthfully, he had no idea how to make her feel better.

He called again, “Ophelia,” his voice soothing like a lullaby.

Ophelia sighed deeply, closed her eyes, and suddenly slammed her lips onto his. Before she could go on, Nikolai took possession of her mouth and gave her a fierce kiss as if his life depended on it. When she opened up for him, his tongue entered her mouth without hesitation, entangled and caressed against hers in an entirely slow and blissful manner.

Her body pushed against his, moaning into his mouth as her hold on his broad shoulders grew tighter. She let her fingers dangle in his smooth, thick, dark hair, bringing the same savagery and intensity to the kiss. Her body felt like it was melting, her mind going blank from the strong heat that was being blasted ferociously into her body

His chest vibrated against her like a thunderstorm approaching with each gasp that accompanied the intense pressure he applied to the kiss. Her body pressed firmly against his as his arms grew tighter around her, drawing her closer as if he couldn’t get enough of her.

The mist swirling them became absolutely tight and much more intense when sparks of golden fire began to emerge from within.

The toe-curling ecstasy she experienced caused a virulent spark of electricity to rip through her body, rendering her brain completely inactive.

She was completely unable to think clearly and was in awe of her intense need for him. The intense, passion-hungry emotions that were flooding into her caused her heart to beat wildly and swell. This was dangerous and she knew it. She felt incomprehensible feelings for Nikolai in a way that she was terrified and in a way that she felt she would regret some day.

However, she had fallen too deep and had gone too far to turn back, and even if there had been a way, she didn’t want to stop the feelings that were growing inside of her-feelings that were driving her nearly as insane as he was. She became fully aware of how intensely she desired him—every aspect of him—and how much she desired to own him.

Nikolai groaned, “Ophelia,” in a thick, gravelly voice.

He pulled away from her lips and let his lips droop. She shivered when his hot breath brushed across her flesh and she noticed him lightly sniffing at her in an effort to capture her scent.

She fought for breathing, holding onto his hair. “Nik…”

When she felt his lips press against the side of her neck, her breath caught, and when she felt his fangs brush against her skin, her body tensed.

“You mentioned something marking.” She could feel the exquisite dance of Nikolai’s breath on her skin as he muttered, making her skin vibrate.

Ophelia’s eyes flew wide “I…”

“Normally the marking occurs once we have become one, but I feel the urge to mark you right now.” Nikolai murmured darkly.`
