127 Love to hate?
Remaining motionless for a while and gazing in the same direction that she had disappeared to, Nikolai finally took a step forward, taking a slow breath. He eventually came to a reluctant halt, raking his bloody hand over his disheveled hair. 1
Despite being occupied all day, he failed to concentrate at all.
He committed the biggest error of his life, and he wasn’t to blame. Even when those men who had irritated him were speaking, it all seemed like a blur to him because he kept thinking about the expression she had on her face when she questioned him back in Sasha’s room.
How was he going to explain to her that he was destined to have two mates? Saying so would only cause her to reflect deeply and realize that he was the child of doom.
Being the child of doom meant that he was the villain and because of that, she was going to despise and avoid him. But after giving it some serious thought, he realized she already did.
“Goddess, no!” He let out a frustrated sigh and quickly left the throne room. He abruptly stopped when he heard small, heavy sobbing and tightened his hands when he realized it was Ophelia. A surprise awaited him as he followed the sound. Ophelia was sobbing in Viktor’s arms.
Viktor was calming her but she didn’t sound like she was going to calm down anytime soon. Nikolai’s heart clenched but jealousy consumed his soul watching Viktor touching her to soothe her.
Sensing Nikolai’s presence, Viktor looked at Nikolai with wide eyes but he didn’t stop trying to calm Ophelia who was still crying.
Nikolai saw red and took a step towards them. However, he froze when he

heard her whimper the words.
“I.. I want to go home.”
His eyes widened and he slowly took a step back.
Viktor looked as shocked as he did. “Why?” He had to ask, regardless of Nikolai’s presence.
“I’m not Nikolai’s mate.” Ophelia coughed out, retreated from Viktor, wiped her tears away with her hands, and then let out a sniff. “I never
was.”
‘No, you’re mistaken!’ Nikolai almost said it as he extended his arm toward
her.
Sadly, he held back and vanished.
Viktor immediately realized that something bad had transpired between them. He sincerely hoped that Nikolai wouldn’t strangle him for touching his mate. He didn’t want to get caught up in a lovers quarrel.
“I think you just need to calm down, it may just be a misunderstanding.” Viktor said to her with the aim to mend whatever had happened between
them.
“I’m not misunderstanding anything. I saw him and heard him! I’m neither blind nor deaf.” Ophelia snarled in annoyance, fought back tears that were about to well up again, and marched off. Ever since she started crying again, holding them back had been very difficult.
Returning to Yulia’s room, she crawled into the bed, wrapped herself in a blanket, and cuddled up. Again… Her attempts to fall asleep were
ineffective. She tossed on the bed for a while before finally forcing herself to sit down out of frustration.
“This is bothersome.” She moaned and got up from the bed, glancing at

the door like she was waiting for someone. “Is he really not going to come
and at least talk to me?”
She moved cautiously toward the door and put her hand on the handle. “He’s a complete coward. Am I in the wrong here that I have to continue feeling like this? I can’t take this anymore.” She grumbled and flung open
the door.
At that precise moment, a dark presence filled the room solemnly
followed by a low, deep voice that was laden with terrible guilt. “I’m sorry, Ophelia.”
Ophelia gradually shut the door. “All we need is communication, coward.” She growled and turned to him, crossing her arms on her chest.
Nikolai nodded slowly, nervously rubbing the back of his neck. “I accept
the fact that I am a coward.”
“So? Am I your mate or not?” Ophelia asked sternly.
“You are.” Nikolai replied immediately.
“Then why did you call that witch your mate?” Ophelia asked not hiding her rage and jealousy at all.
“Because…” Nikolai drewled nervously, still rubbing the back of his neck and trying to avoid her angry eyes.
Ophelia groaned loudly. She moved closer to him, narrowing the gap between them as her expression softened slightly, and grabbed his bloody hands in hers. “I understand that you find it difficult to communicate because you worry that whatever you say will turn me against you. But, you should be aware that no matter what, communication is crucial to us and our relationship.”
Nikolai tightly gripped her hands. “You’re going to hate me so much, Ophelia.”

“We are getting married for god’s sake, Nikolai!” Ophelia heightened her voice in frustration then gasped and looked at Yulia who groaned and turned on the bed. It was a relief that she didn’t wake up.
Nikolai blinked at her. “Do you really want to leave?”
“Huh?” Ophelia questioned in shock and perplexity.
“You mentioned your desire to return home to Viktor.” Nikolai murmured, averting his gaze from hers.
She blinked anxiously, realizing that Nikolai was there when she was crying. “You are my home”
“Liar, you meant Fireria.” Nikolai scowled.
“I was upset because you labeled another person your mate! How would you feel if I treated you in the same way?” She shot back and tsked.
“I would have killed him but not in your presence. Maybe.” Nikolai said bluntly. He made that statement sound so normal and non violent.
She cleared her throat. “Why must you think like that?”
“Ophelia.” Nikolai called calmly and worriedly. “I have two mates. You and the witch are my mates.”
Ophelia was taken aback and for a minute she actually thought that he was joking. But his expression and his intense stare told her otherwise.
“How’s that possible? You are not supposed to have two mates…” She paused, her eyes widened. “Nikolai, what is going on?”
“A child born from blood, born from a sacrifice, born from a deal treasured
with a curse, and born bound to a dragon of dominance, has two paths in his horrifying fate. A being that awakens after death is a being of destruction, doomed to end every life that comes into contact with him.
He is obsessed with terror and thrives off the darkness that swirls within

him.” He said those words softly whilst her shocked reaction let him know
that she understood what he meant even before he had finished his
sentence.
“No!” She embraced him tightly. “It can’t be.”
Nikolai let out a heavy sigh, lifting his gaze to the chandelier which reflected in his crimson eyes. “I am the Child Of Doom.”
In the somewhat deserted room, Nikolai and Ophelia were lying in silence in the middle of the king-sized bed. They were each other’s arms, enjoying their warmth to make up for the brief period they had been apart from
one another.
Communication was actually exactly what they needed.
Nikolai gently stroked her hair. “Does knowing the truth make a
difference?”
“No, not really.” Ophelia muttered, biting her bottom lip.
“So you’re not leaving?” Just to be certain, Nikolai asked quietly.
“No.” Ophelia snickered. “Avoid that witch at all costs. She is a mage as
well.
“I will but… She exudes a smell that you don’t.” Nikolai made known.
Ophelia bit her lower lip. “Curses.” She then sighed. “The choice is yours to make.”
“I’m getting married to you not her, you are the only one I have eyes for.”
Ophelia flushed. However, her thoughts started to stray. The fact that Nikolai was the child of doom made her the dragon of dominance. They were bound even before they were born which signified his birthmark.

No… She shook her head slowly. It would be wise to keep any serious thought at bay.
