Goosebumps broke out on her arms. She felt shivers down her spine at his words and raised an eyebrow in hopes that he would be able to see the confusion and doubt in her eyes.
“Talk to me.” Nikolai mumbled.
At that moment, the music changed into a cadence that was slow but powerful. As the beat began to start off high before descending into forceful beats, her heart missed a beat.
Mutters filled the room. She looked at the other couples.
“Focus on me, Ophelia.” Nikolai ordered as his hold on her hand tightened.
Ophelia gulped. Her gaze strayed to the couples that were taking up the entire dance floor. She observed a change. They were all moving in one, much like in a choreographed manner. She caught her breath and realized that she was right.
Once more calling out, “Ophelia,” Nikolai gently spun her.
When Ophelia regained her composure, she noticed that all the other men had also spun their companions.
“What is going on?” She whispered. He brought her back to him, laid his hand on her lower back, raised her hand, and gently led her around the floor.
“You know this dance?” With sparkling eyes, Nikolai questioned.
She did.

“We are not on an altar, and I have not yet made a proposal.” Nikolai said, his voice filled with amusement.
Ophelia bit her lip and gave him the most silent headshake possible.
They quickly achieved perfect synchronicity with the beat, just like a perfect pair they were. The other couples followed suit as the dance matched the energizing beat of the music.

They started to move in separate directions, exchanging knowing, passionate glances. And as Ophelia took a tiny step away, he grabbed her hand and drew her in, wrapped his arms around her, moving against the flow of other couples.
“Awaiting my capture at all times?” She asked with a look of amusement.

“If you only knew,” Nikolai mumbled while resisting the impulse to crash his lips on hers.
They resumed dancing in time with the other couples as the beat got deeper and deeper. At every hard beat, the lights changed from dark to bright.
“Talk to me.” Nikolai said those words again. And as her smile faded, and his eyebrows rose in concern. “Did I say something inappropriate back in the room?”

“Regardless of the fact that we are mates, being obstinate won’t accomplish anything.”
Nikolai felt her hand leave his cheek as the ballroom became dark. He
permitted her even though she was eluding him. He let go of her hand as he watched her leaving in the warm light of the room.
The music ceased as the ballroom once more lit up. The room was filled with merry talk and boisterous claps.

Nikolai peered at the throng, he noticed that there were murmurs them, indicating that his parents were present. In order to monitor ents in the midst of the crowd, he left the dance floor and returned in corner of the ballroom.
sual, his mother had a beautiful appearance. She had a big smile on her e to show that she was pleased with her new age. No. Other factors also ayed a role.
When they started their speeches, he didn’t seem interested in listening. They weren’t even going to call him. Or will they?
“… And on the night of the full moon festival, my son Nikolai Novikov will be crowned as Alpha.” Alexander spoke, beaming with pride.
In the darkness he cast at the corner, Nikolai’s eyes shone brightly. “They did.” He growled before emerging from the shadows.
The Novikovs were all in the ballroom. He had no trouble smelling them out. The guests parted as soon as they saw him walk towards his parents with ease and authority,
Although he could hear murmurs, they were audible to his keen hearing. Both those who were familiar with him and those who weren’t but had undoubtedly heard rumors about him.
“So, this is Nikolai Novikov.”

“He has significantly grown.”
“His aura is…”
“He’s really handsome!”
“Handsome is an understatement.
He decided to stop listening and joined his mother, who was doing a great job of maintaining her grin. Alexander appeared to be really pleased.

“And you are squandering my time.” Nikolai snarled and moved forward, only for him to suddenly appear in front of him, sporting a blank expression.
“Sincerely, I’m also pressed for time. I’m seeking a perceptive feline like Phoenix.” Ares spoke in an extremely sinister manner.
“A phoenix is in a gathering where the majority of attendees are wolf shifters and vampires like yourself?” Nikolai inquired, a little surprised, and then grinned cunningly, “Perfect.”
“She is not your dinner.” Ares scolded.
