The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 514

She desperately tries to cup her hand over the phone's microphone, but the couple next door is entirely lost in the throes of passion, their cries echoing loudly off the cheap plaster. Wrapping the phone in a blanket wouldn't even muffle the sheer volume of their exploits.

On the other end of the line, Danny catches every single scandalous sound. His expression instantly darkens into a dangerous scowl.

"Tara, where exactly are you right now?" he asks, his voice dropping an octave. It is impossible to mistake the sounds of heavy intimacy bleeding through the speaker.

"I'm, uh, resting at a local motel," Tara stammers, fumbling over her words in a way she rarely ever does. "The other guests here are just... extremely uninhibited. So, yeah. It's a situation."

"Give me the exact location right now," Danny commands, his legendary composure completely fracturing. "Send me your pinned location while you still have a signal!"

He is vibrating with tension. What kind of shady, degenerate establishment is she staying in?

The moment her pin drops into his messages, Danny floors the gas pedal, tearing through the winding roads until he finally pulls up to the motel. Stepping inside, his striking features harden as he takes in the dingy surroundings. As he reaches the third floor, the stereo-surround chorus of wild groans and rhythmic thumping hits him full force. His predatory gaze turns absolutely somber. How on earth did she plan on calmly sleeping through this?

Just as he reaches her door, the overly enthusiastic motel owner comes bustling up the stairs right behind him, her eyes practically sparkling with gossip.

"Oh, so you were waiting for your boyfriend to show up!" the woman chirps, looking from Tara to Danny. "No wonder you wanted the biggest room. By the way, we keep a stash of adult couple's supplies behind the desk. Should I bring a basket up for you two? I'll give you a fantastic discount!"

"We are going home."

"Right now? Have you seen the roads out there? Driving through these pitch-black mountain passes is practically a death sentence," she argues. It is already approaching midnight. It makes infinitely more sense to grab a few hours of sleep and hit the road once the sun comes up and she reconvenes with Bianca. "We aren't in a rush."

"I'll call in a helicopter," Danny replies with icy authority. "We can fly back."

Tara simply stares at him, utterly flabbergasted.
