The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 573

"Goodness, Deanna, what is going on with you?" Eleanor frowns. "This is the fourth time you've broken something lately. You can't even hold a cup steady."

Recently, Deanna has been exceptionally clumsy, constantly knocking things over as if her mind is entirely elsewhere.

"How are you this careless? Have you been spending too much time playing poker and neglecting your gym session?"

Facing her mother-in-law's sharp criticism, Deanna flusters and quickly defends herself. "I don't play poker that often! And I do yoga and swim every day. I must just be a little tired."

Privately, she finds it strange too. Lately, she experiences sudden bouts of weakness where she just can't hold onto objects. But she gets a comprehensive physical exam three times a year, and the doctors always tell her she is perfectly fine. Aside from minor ailments, her health markers are exceptional.

"You aren't lacking exercise," Tara says smoothly, having watched the entire sequence of events. "I suggest you book an appointment with a neurology department for a thorough screening."

"What are you talking about?" Deanna snaps. "Why would I need to see a neurologist when I'm perfectly fine?"

"You have drooping eyelids, easily fatigue, and frequently lose your grip on objects. Medically, these are early signs of myasthenia," Tara states with clinical detachment. "Get a detailed neurological exam. You don’t have to listen to me. It's entirely up to you."

Tara isn't the type to stick her nose in other people's business. She only offered the advice out of a lingering, microscopic sense of obligation because Deanna gave birth to her.

"Are you cursing me with a disease?" Deanna's voice rises sharply, her face twisting with disbelief and sheer annoyance. "I get a physical every year! I know my own body!"

"Mom, don't listen to her nonsense," Deanna huffs, impatiently shaking off Eleanor's hand. "I'm absolutely fine."

With that, she storms out, Alec trailing right behind her.

Eleanor watches them leave, a heavy sigh escaping her lips. Her heart aches with worry. The rift between Tara and the rest of the family is far too deep to be mended by a few simple conversations. And then there is Nikolai. Recently, he has been complaining of chest pains, yet the doctors claim there's nothing wrong, brushing it off as stress and lack of sleep.

The doctors say they are fine, but Eleanor can't shake the terrifying, sinking feeling in her chest. Something is very wrong.

Having left the grand estate behind, Tara drives straight back to Dennis Group. Ever since her colleagues discovered she is the elite apprentice of the legendary Joseph Reeves, the way they look at her has drastically shifted to sheer reverence. The opportunistic executives constantly flock to her to curry favor, and even the office gossips who once sneered at her wouldn't dare whisper a bad word behind her back anymore.
