Just as Tara settles in, Jake steps into her office.

"Can we talk?"

"Can I say no?" Tara chuckles softly.

He is already standing in her office, clearly determined to speak his mind, making his question entirely redundant. Although the man standing before her no longer throws relentless insults her way or blindly defends Jade, Tara still finds him fundamentally repulsive. So what if he finally woke up and saw the truth? The past cannot simply be erased.

Ignoring her clear dismissal, Jake brazenly takes a seat across from her desk.

"Mom said she had lunch with you today," Jake begins. "She said you refused to help Dennis Group?"

"Help Dennis Group? Aren't you just asking me to help you?" Tara shoots back.

He dresses it up nicely by claiming it's for the company, but at the core, it's about securing his own legacy.

"Everything I do is for Dennis Group! I just need you to put in a good word with Joseph. I swear, after this is resolved, I will never bother you again."

"And if I say no?"

She has zero interest in playing sister with him. Aside from her grandmother and Aunt Kellen, she has already cut ties with the entire Dennis family. Why would she make an exception for him?

"Do you really not care about our family at all? Will you truly not even consider it?" Jake presses, misunderstanding her completely. "If this is about the heir position, you don't have to worry. I promise I won't fight you for it."

Jake assumes she is refusing because she views him as a corporate rival. He believes that if they repair their relationship, she won't feel threatened and might even help him secure the CEO seat faster.
