Brandon kept his word. At noon, the CFO of Levy Group called Brianna to discuss the payment details.

She contacted Tristan and handed the matter over to her assistant to handle.

Clair was heading back to Seavale to coordinate the charity gala arrangements.

Brianna gave him a ride.

Clair promised he’d do his best to secure slots for five of her works in the auction.

Brianna smiled. Just being able to participate in the auction was already more than enough for her.

When they arrived at the airport, they bumped into Whitney.

Whitney looked a little awkward for a moment.

Brianna, are you on a business trip?Whitney asked.

Seeing Brianna’s unhappy expression, Clair tried to smooth things over.

Mr. Meyers, are you heading somewhere or picking someone up?Clair asked.

I’m here to pick someone up,Whitney said, unable to resist showing off in front of Brianna. The company’s got a big project coming up, so I had to call Blanca back.

Brianna snorted coldly.

Clair glanced at the two, feeling the awkwardness in the air.

Alright, Mr. Meyers, we’ll leave you to it. We’re heading to our gate,Clair said.

Whitney started to say something, but Brianna didn’t even glance back as she walked away.

After seeing Clair off, Brianna drove home.

Blanca’s back, but what about Darcy?Brianna wondered.

It’s only been two months,’ she thought.

The pregnancy still isn’t stable.

She probably wouldn’t be coming back anytime soon.

Let her strut around out there for now, Brianna thought.

With the whole mess going on with the new district land, she just didn’t have the energy to bother with Darcy

When she got home, she took a shower and caught sight of all those hickeys scattered across her chest in the mirror.

Seriously, was he a dog in a past life or something?Brianna grumbled to herself.

He never acted like this before, she thought.

Last night had been a long, wild ride, and now she was completely wiped out.

Brianna crashed onto the bed and was out like a light.

After sleeping in, she woke up in the afternoon and noticed Patsy had tried to call her several times.

She called her back.

Hey, where are you?Patsy asked.

I’m at home,Brianna said, grabbing a glass of water and taking a big gulp. What’s up?

Zoe sent me an invite. His engagement’s next month,Patsy said.

Wait, Tristan’s getting engaged?Brianna thought, feeling a bit blindsided.

She quickly switched to speaker and opened WhatsApp to check her messages.

But there was no invitation for her.

She felt a pang of disappointment.

Wow, they’re getting engaged already?Brianna asked, a bit surprised.

He hadn’t even brought her around to meet everyone yet, and now they’re announcing an engagement,

Brianna was at a loss for words.

Must be a family arrangement,” Patsy said. I’ve been trying to call Tristan, but he won’t answer.

Patsy knew Tristan all too well.

She knew he couldn’t be less interested.

The sudden news about his engagement made Patsy worry.

After trying to reach him all afternoon with no luck, she thought maybe Brianna could get through.

Can you give him a call and invite him to join us? I’ll treat you both to dinner,Patsy said.

He’s probably busy right now,Brianna said, her irritation showing,

Not even a headsup about something this huge?Brianna thought.

Didn’t even get an invite,’ she grumbled to herself.

I chatted with him the other day, and honestly, he really wasn’t on board with it. Can you give him a call? I’m worried about him,Patsy said.

Brianna felt herself soften.

Alright, I’ll call him now,she said.

She called, but it just kept ringingno answer.

After a bit, she tried again, and this time he finally picked up.

Hello?Tristan’s voice sounded tired and drained.

Where are you? Want to hang out?Brianna said, trying to keep it light.

So, you found out?Tristan asked, sounding completely defeated.

Okay. Where are you? Should I swing by and get you?Brianna asked.

I’m still at home. Let me know where we’re meeting and send me the pin,Tristan replied.

After hanging up, Brianna changed into something more comfortable and headed out to meet Patsy.

They’d been sitting there for a while when Tristan finally showed up.

He looked like he’d been run over by life itself, completely deflated.

Brianna glanced at Tristanusually the life of the party, always joking aroundbut now he looked completely defeated. She couldn’t help but ask, Seriously, what’s going on?

What happened?she pressed.

The old man insists I marry her.Tristan muttered, grabbing his glass and taking a big gulp.

He drank too fast, wincing as the alcohol burned down his throat.

How long have you guys actually been together?Brianna asked, unable to hide her curiosity.

Seriously, how does a fling turn into an engagement overnight? Brianna thought, completely thrown off.

We were never even a thing, Tristan said, frustrated. I got wasted, hooked up with her at a hotel, and my dad found out. Now he’s making me marry her.

Who told you to get drunk and mess around with her?Patsy snapped.

When have I ever lost control like that?Tristan protested, genuinely hurt. Come on, I’ve never done anything like that in all these years!

Brianna and Patsy believed him. If he were that kind of guy, they wouldn’t have hung out with him for so

long.

A shadow of doubt lingered in Brianna’s mind.

Is Nancy pregnant?she asked.

No!Tristan snapped, clearly frustrated.

When did this happen?Patsy asked, unable to hide her curiosity.

Tristan glanced at Brianna, guilt written all over his face.

He hesitated, trying to skirt around the question.

It was the night of the last financing banquet,he muttered.

Brianna rolled her eyes. Darcy and Brandon hooked up that night, too.”

As soon as the words left her mouth, she realized she’d gone a bit too far.

How could I even compare my friend’s situation to the mess between those two homewreckers?Brianna thought, feeling a pang of guilt.

That’s not what I meantshe quickly added.

Hold on, you just jogged my memory,Tristan said, something suddenly clicking in his mind.

What’s up?Patsy asked, puzzled.

Wait, something’s off,Tristan muttered, his brows furrowed as he tried to recall what really happened that night.

Wait, I remember nowI thought Darcy was you, so that’s why I ended up sitting next to Brandon,Tristan said, still piecing things together.

Tristan tried hard to recall what had happened.

I was super thirsty, and there was a glass of orange juice in front of Brandon. I thought it’d help me sober up, so I just grabbed it and drank,he explained.

The memories were getting clearer now.

After I drank that orange juice, my whole body started burning up. I couldn’t stand it, so I went out looking for you guys, but couldn’t find you. Then I ran into Nancy, she helped me out, andwell, you know how things went from there.Tristan said, his voice fading.

Patsy felt a wave of doubt rising inside her.

Patsy asked, So, are you saying Nancy drugged you, or was she actually trying to drug Brandon instead?

No!Tristan denied. Nancy was only there because she had another dinner to attend that night. She never came into our banquet hall at all.

Suddenly, vivid images flashed through Tristan’s mind.

I remember now. Darcy handed that glass of orange juice to Brandon,” Tristan said, realization dawning on him.

He slammed his hand on the table, fuming. Damn it! She tried to drug Brandon, and I was the one who drank it!

Like that stopped those two from doing something filthy,Brianna spat, her voice dripping with contempt.

You sure about that?Patsy doublechecked.

Absolutely. One hundred percent,Tristan replied, dead serious.

He only went to sit next to Brandon because he mistook Darcy for Brianna.

And because he thought she was Brianna, he didn’t even hesitate before downing that glass of orange juice.

Brianna kept quiet.

She just made a mental note of it.

Patsy looked at Brianna, her eyes full of mixed emotions.

Tristan was fuming, sulking, and cursing under his breath.

Did I piss off that jerk in a past life or something? Every time I try to pull something off, he ends up getting all the perks, and every mess he makes, I’m the one who gets screwed, Tristan ranted silently.

This is so damn unfair!he thought, feeling totally fed up.
