Cora put on quite a performance. The substitute corpse pulled from the medical anatomy pool was the first to be cremated that day.

Originally, Joseph’s plan had never required an actual body. He only needed some abandoned ashes from the funeral home and a quick photo, and that would be enough.

Now that he had the photo from Cora, he went straight to Yara.

He sent the caregiver and the others away, then said to Yara, “You scared me to death, Big Sis. My hands are stained with blood from now on.”

“That fool deserved to die. Even if you hadn’t killed Mona, she would’ve been dead soon anyway. Don’t overthink it. If you’re still worried, I’ll arrange a therapist for you,” she replied.

Yara already knew Mona had died the night before. Joseph’s obedience proved his loyalty to her.

She looked at Joseph with affection. He might not be a looker, but the fact that he killed for her still stood.

She reached out, satisfied with his erection. “Go lock the door. Why don’t we spend the night together? I’ll give you a taste of heaven.”

Joseph refused at once. “Mr. Zahn will be able to speak today. Don’t let this trivial matter mess up the big plans you have with your brother. Honestly, I’m scared of him. I’m afraid he’ll kill me.”

“Well, you’re certainly bold when it comes to women. But you’re right. I do have something important to discuss with him. If you wear me out, I’ll forget what I need to say. Then, it’ll be your fault.”

“Oh, are you going to tell him about Mona? Does she really have that much impact on your plans?”

“Yes, she does. There are things I still can’t tell you. Once you marry me, I’ll tell you everything.”

Yara pulled her hand back and stopped teasing him. Once she’d composed herself, she asked Joseph to start the treatment ahead of schedule. All that remained was to wait until Skylar could speak again.

Yara fell asleep during the treatment. Joseph couldn’t dig anything out of her, so he returned to the nurses’ station. Soon, he saw Madeline arrive.

“Skylar is waking up today. I need to talk to him. Bring me to him now!”

Joseph pulled down his mask and gestured for her to look at his face. “How do I look?”

“Don’t disgust me! Do as I say, or I’ll tell Skylar. He won’t spare you!”

The more Madeline stared at Joseph’s face, the more disgusted she felt. She quickly took out a pendant with Skylar’s photo and looked at it over and over to calm herself.

“I mean, do I look like an idiot to you?” Joseph asked her.

“I’m here to see Skylar. If you don’t take me to him, he’ll deal with you later!” she threatened.

“You seriously think he’ll deal with me because of you? Do you think you’ll even get a chance to complain to him? Get out of my sight,” he replied.
