Chapter 606
“You… How dare you hit me?” Madeline was stunned.
She’d always tried to maintain her image as a demure, refined lady. That sweet, coquettish act always worked wonders on Skylar. Even after getting slapped, her first instinct was to feel sorry for herself rather than immediately fight back or throw herself on the floor and make a scene.
“You tried to seduce my dad, you cheap slut! You deserved that. If my mom had been here, she would’ve carved up your face so you’d never dare try it again. Get lost!” Natalie snapped.
She proceeded to tell Joseph to shut the door and keep Madeline out.
Joseph was a little taken aback. Natalie had fully stepped into her role as Skylar’s daughter. She was also beginning to take on more and more of Cora’s domineering, relentless bearing.
Perhaps this was her true nature. He’d once tried to teach her all sorts of skills in an attempt to mold her into a docile young woman. No wonder she never liked him, biological daughter or not.
Joseph sighed inwardly. He and Natalie were simply not on the same wavelength when it came to their values, so naturally, they were never going to see eye to eye.
He took Natalie to the changing room and had her put on a nurse’s uniform, complete with a cap and mask. Then, he brought her into the ICU.
“Dad, it’s me, Nat. I’ve come to see you.” She leaned in and spoke softly to Skylar. However, he never responded.
Natalie looked over at Joseph as she silently urged him to find a way to wake Skylar.
Joseph studied him for a moment. Skylar looked asleep, but he was merely pretending to be unconscious.
“Don’t worry,” Joseph said. “Mr. Zahn’s condition will get better. You’ll be able to talk to him the next time you visit.”
Natalie frowned. “I paid good money to you, and that’s all you have to say?”
Skylar’s brow twitched at her words. Joseph caught it instantly.
So much for pretending to be asleep. Skylar could barely keep up the act any longer. After all, taking money from Natalie meant taking money from Skylar. That clearly pissed him off.
Well, Joseph wanted him dead anyway.
Then, he turned back to Natalie and retorted, “Could you have even gotten in here without me? Your mother’s men would have talked you into leaving the second you showed up here. If she weren’t busy with Evercrest Industrial, do you think you could even slip out?”
Joseph noticed that Skylar’s brow twitched again at the mention of Evercrest Industrial. Clearly, he’d just struck
another nerve.
What was Skylar still pretending for? Although Joseph found the situation amusing, he didn’t push any further. Sometimes, the best way to get secrets was to let the person involved reveal them themselves.
“How do you know my mom went to Evercrest Industrial? That’s confidential,” Natalie asked.

Joseph didn’t give her a straight answer. Instead, he shot back, “Guess. If you’re that curious, pay me again and I’ll tell you!”
Natalie ignored him and transferred five million dollars over. Although she had finally met her biological father, she hadn’t managed to speak with him or gain anything from Skylar.
Joseph checked the time when he heard someone keying in the passcode outside. He quickly told Natalie to keep her disguise and not give herself away.
