Madeline:
"I'm heading toward the mansion now. In a little while, all the warriors will gather and head to the mountain top to see what happened. Once they're gone, I'll go inside and get my son out."
I said on the call, my hands trembling with anger.
I didn't even know how I would react once I finally got my hands on Sawyer.
"What are you guys doing?" I asked Baxter.
"We're getting ready to head toward the mountain top. I'm almost certain Sawyer will do everything he can within the next few hours to convince everyone to attack the human lands," Baxter replied.
I nodded as I agreed with Baxter.
"Please, Baxter, be careful. Those people are vindictive," I warned, remembering how they'd treated me when they thought I was no longer useful to them.
Now that Sawyer had supposedly slain the monster for them, they would only become more hostile toward anyone who tried to open their eyes.
"Madeline, if they want to be hostile and vindictive, I can be hostile too. Don't worry about me. Just take care of yourself, okay? We will meet soon."
With that, Baxter hung up.
It was time.
One by one, the warriors began gathering.
"Let's see what that fucker has done," one of them muttered.
"Do we really want a lycan as our fucking Alpha King? That's unfair," another argued.
"I know, right? Why would we want some crazy monster ruling us? His own people threw him out of the human world, and somehow ours are welcoming him. It boggles my mind," a third complained.
It seemed everyone was only siding with Sawyer because of the threat he represented.
"I'm pretty sure they're doing this because they want the curse gone. They need a leader. The council is right. There are barely any Alphas left, and no one else is helping them."
"God, I miss Researcher Madeline," a fourth warrior murmured.
"Yeah. She was doing everything right until those creepy alphas started harassing her and trying to force themselves on her. Poor woman went through so much. I wish we'd fought harder for her. Maybe then we wouldn't be stuck bowing to a lycan now."
Their voices stayed with me.
Maybe guiding these people back to the right path wouldn't be as difficult as I'd feared.
At least the warriors, Alphas, Betas, and Gammas weren't following Sawyer willingly.
They were afraid.
The ordinary people were miserable too, but greed and selfishness had taken deep root in them.
Either way, the moment the warriors left, I ran toward the mansion.
As soon as I stepped inside, I found three warriors sitting on the sofa.
The instant they saw me, their eyes widened in alarm.
One reached for his gun.
Another gripped a knife.
