Madeline:
After meeting up with Bodhi, I decided to head toward the mountain top.
Sadly, Rosetta couldn't come with us, and the reason was simple.
She wasn't able to leave a certain boundary.
I could only imagine how she felt.
Part of me thought she'd be happy staying home with Dad, but another part knew she'd be anxious to find out what was happening on the mountain.
"Where are we going?" Bodhi asked.
I smiled and kissed his cheek before stopping on the road and turning toward one of the warriors waiting nearby to take him to Rosetta and his grandfather.
"Bodhi, you've already met Aunt Rosetta, right? She'll take care of you, and you'll get to see your grandfather too. Now go."
I kissed his forehead before he climbed into the car with the warrior.
Then I took off toward the mountain top.
Halfway through, I saw Byron rushing away.
βHe killed the monster, I am only heading back to be with Rosetta, I have something important to do,β he was in such a hurry that for a moment, he even scared me.
By the time I arrived, everything was happening exactly as we'd expected.
Sawyer stood in the middle of the crowd, giving some grand speech about attacking the humans within the next hour.
"Are you sure you did?"
The moment my voice carried across the crowd, Sawyer's eyes narrowed.
Everyone gasped even louder this time as I pushed my way through them.
I stepped to the side, and soon the confrontation formed almost like a triangle.
Baxter stood nearby while Ron and Yuvonne moved closer to me.
Sawyer remained on the opposite side, separated from us, with the crowd surrounding the entire scene.
"You! You're the savior! You were supposed to save our children!" a woman shouted, pointing toward herself.
"What about her?" Baxter thundered.
"What about her? Everyone she claimed she'd lost is alive and perfectly fine!" a man yelled back.
"And that excuses the torture you all put her through?" Baxter snapped. "She didn't know we were alive. We were tortured. The Moon Goddess saved us. So no, this wasn't some plan where we pretended to be dead."
His voice was so deep and thunderous that whenever he spoke, no one dared interrupt him.
"That's a good story," Sawyer replied. "You can tell it to your children."
He paused, his attention fixed on Baxter.
"Oh, wait. They're in the human world, aren't they?"
Sawyer pointed toward us.
"That's why these people are here. They came from the human lands."
His expression hardened.
"They came for revenge."
Once again, the crowd erupted in gasps, several people covering their mouths as they stared at us in shock.
"We didn't come here for anything. If anything, I came to save an innocent man's life and help you kill the monster.β
Baxter's words made several heads turn toward him.
"That's a lie," Sawyer scoffed, shaking his head in disbelief.
"Really? Is that so? Then mind telling me why this monster is female now instead of male?"
I watched Sawyer's jaw clench.
That alone was enough to prove he'd noticed it too.
"He's right. This doesn't look like the monster from before. Remember the eyes? The human features? They were male. This one is female." a man yelled.
"Wait, what is going on?" a woman cried out, demanding an explanation.
"Step aside," Sawyer snapped at her.
