"I'm gonna fucking bite you," Daniel muttered, climbing on top of me as I giggled.

We had already put the children to sleep, and for once, we were able to have a little fun on the couch.

We'd been watching a movie when Daniel suddenly became far too interested in me.

One thing led to another, and soon we were making out, chasing each other around, laughing, until I ended up back on the couch with him hovering over me.

He kissed my neck, making me giggle as he pretended to be a werewolf.

The whole night had passed.

Somewhere in the back of my mind, I was still worried about everything happening in the werewolf world, but being with Daniel felt comforting enough to quiet those thoughts for a while.

"You know, it's a new morning," I teased. "Maybe it'll be a new beginning too."

He dragged his tongue along my neck, pretending to prepare me for a bite.

"You're human. Stop it," I laughed, lightly scratching his back.

He'd been in some pain the night before, but by morning, he'd seemed fine.

He'd only complained that his entire body ached for no obvious reason.

Some of the guards had mentioned the same thing before asking to leave because they weren't feeling well.

I'd assumed it had something to do with how bitterly cold it had become.

"Hey, stop."

I pushed Daniel back just enough to place both hands against his chest.

He braced himself on either side of me, holding his weight above the couch.

"Why?" he asked playfully.

Then his expression changed.

His eyes squeezed shut, and his body suddenly tensed.

"Are you okay? Is your stomach hurting again?" I asked but he didn't answer.

"Is it the body pain?"

Daniel pushed himself away from me completely and sank onto the floor beside the couch.

"Daniel?"

I immediately rushed toward him.

"Are you okay?"

"My whole body hurts," he groaned.

This time, he wasn't simply complaining about an ache.

The pain was written all over him.

"Daniel, look at me," I insisted.

The moment I touched his face, my stomach dropped.

His skin was burning.

"You have a fever. Oh my God, Daniel, look at me."

He slowly lifted his eyes.

I gasped and immediately pulled my hands away.

His eyes were completely red.

"What is it?" he asked, reaching for his face.
