Lucius had never even bothered to look at them.
He viewed her devotion with absolute disdain.
Madeline tossed everything into the trash. Keeping these items was pointless; they were just dead weight that would eventually be used to mock and humiliate her.
By ten o'clock, she was finally done packing.
She showered, applied her skincare routine, and was just getting ready for bed when the door swung open.
Lucius walked in, leading Leo, who was still clutching his stomach.
"Madeline, his stomach still hurts," Lucius said, sounding frustrated. "I took him to the hospital, but they couldn't find anything wrong. Look at him and tell me what to do."
When Lucius first dragged her to adopt the boy, he only ever signed the paperwork. Beyond that, he used work as an excuse to completely avoid the child.
Madeline quickly realized her husband was a deeply cold man who despised children.
Every doctor's appointment, vaccination, meal, and preschool drop-off had fallen squarely on Madeline's shoulders.
She looked up calmly. "Let Liliana take care of him."
If she hadn't known Leo was Lucius and Liliana's illegitimate child, she would have rushed the boy to a better hospital immediately. But now that she knew the kid's biological mother was living under the same roof, why should she bother?
If she interfered, they would just find a way to frame her for something else.
It reminded her of the Lightning Interactive scandal. She had done everything perfectly to protect the company's patents, yet because she managed it without spending corporate funds, they twisted the narrative and accused her of corporate sabotage.
Lucius scowled. "Liliana has never raised a child. She's been studying abroad, and she still acts like a young girl. She's fine for playing with him, but she can't actually take care of him."
Sensing the tension, Leo put on his most pathetic, whiny voice. "Mommy, please take care of me. My tummy hurts so bad. Please, Mommy."
Madeline was naturally soft-hearted, but the agonizing betrayal she had suffered over the past few days hardened her resolve. "You explicitly told me to watch and learn how Liliana raises a child. Let her do it. I'll take notes."
"Why are you being so incredibly stubborn?" Lucius snapped, his voice dripping with disappointment. "Are you taking your anger out on an innocent child just because he belongs to Liliana? You're going to take care of him whether you like it or not!"
