Madeline's heart ached violently.

When she saw Liliana calling Leo her son, she could still try to deceive herself.

When Tessa said she saw them acting like a family, Madeline could still comfort herself by thinking Liliana was just trying to steal everything from her.

Madeline scrambled up, trembling, unable to stop crying.

"Lucius, why would you do this to me? You knew Liliana caused my miscarriage, yet you went and had a child with her?"

Lucius replied with arrogant disdain, "I already warned you not to bring that up again. It's in the past, and Liliana didn't do it on purpose."

"She didn't do it on purpose? She did it deliberately! I am your wife. Why would you rather believe her excuses than believe me?"

Madeline was so furious her veins bulged. This marriage had put her through too much suffering. She had endured the agony of losing her child while her husband signed a settlement for the culprit. Just as she was finally recovering, this crushing blow hit her again.

Did Lucius and Liliana just want to torment her until she lost her mind?

"Fine, even if we drop that, what does bringing your child with her into my home mean? Am I a fool? Lucius, I am not an idiot!"

Madeline's hysterical accusations tore from her throat.

Lucius merely shot her a cold, indifferent glance. "It was to spare your feelings that we adopted him. The child is innocent. He can be your child. If you didn't want to give birth, you should have just taken good care of him."

Madeline's heart shattered completely.

This was nothing but a calculated conspiracy.

How could he twist it into saying it was to 'spare her feelings'?

"Lucius, do you even hear what you're saying?" Even the usually submissive Madeline was pushed to her breaking point.

If she understood him correctly, Lucius meant that having an illegitimate child with his mistress was perfectly fine, and she was expected to happily raise the bastard?

She could never accept that.

Madeline scoffed coldly. She was completely done being Mrs. Whitman.
