Realizing she had completely crossed the line, Ivy scrambled to untangle herself from his embrace.
If he woke up and caught her like this, he would probably kick her right out of bed.
Taking advantage of his deep sleep, Ivy moved with extreme caution, slowly slipping out of his arms.
Just as she put a sliver of space between them, her gaze landed on his strikingly handsome face, and she froze.
This was the first time she had ever been close enough to really look at him.
His complexion was flawless, completely devoid of any imperfections.
His features were sharp and commanding, with a strong nose and incredibly seductive lips. His entire face was almost aggressively attractive.
Those lips in particular were so tempting she felt a sudden, ridiculous urge to lean in and kiss them.
In that exact moment, Ivy realized her face was burning and her heart was racing.
She hadn't even done anything, yet her palms were sweating from pure nerves.
What would happen if she just stole a quick kiss while he was asleep?
Ivy sat frozen in a daze for two seconds before violently shaking the thought out of her head.
No, absolutely not. He would definitely call her a shameless gold digger.
Forcing herself to think rationally, Ivy practically bolted out of bed and fled the scene.
However, the second she slipped away, Alaric opened his eyes.
He had been wide awake, fully aware she was admiring him just a second ago.
He honestly thought she was going to make a move.
But she hadn't.
Was he really lacking that much appeal?
Did Ivy genuinely find him too old and unappealing?
Alaric felt a surge of intense frustration.
While brushing his teeth, he spent a long time scrutinizing his reflection in the mirror. He couldn't find a single flaw that would make him unworthy of a young girl, yet she treated him like he was radioactive.
She was the one who practically begged him to marry her, and now she was treating him like a chore.
Wasn't she just playing him for a fool at this point?
By the time Alaric got dressed and headed downstairs, his expression was thunderous.
Ivy and Stella were already seated at the dining table.
The little girl saw her father approach, noticed he looked like he hadn't slept a wink, and asked with genuine concern,
"Daddy, what's wrong? Did you not sleep well with Mommy last night?"
Realizing her thoughts were spiraling into dangerous territory again, Ivy snapped out of it and focused on her breakfast.
"Mommy slept great, but Daddy looks tired. Did Mommy suck the life out of you with all the kissing last night, Daddy? Hahaha..."
Stella looked at Alaric, her innocent guess hitting the table like a grenade.
Hearing his daughter's words, Alaric's expression stiffened even further, his gaze instinctively flicking toward Ivy.
Feeling the weight of his stare, Ivy panicked and quickly turned to the child.
"Stella, don't talk nonsense. Eat your breakfast so I can take you to preschool."
Stella let out an exasperated sigh. "Mommy, today is the weekend. It's the weekend! I'm not going to preschool."
Ivy went quiet.
It was already the weekend?
That meant she had to go to the hospital to stay with Gemma for her chemotherapy.
And she had to go look after Ethan.
Ivy looked across the table at Alaric and cleared her throat.
"Mr. Foster, are you going to the office today? If not, could you watch Stella? I really need to get back to the hospital to take care of your nephew."
Alaric rejected her without missing a beat. "You don't need to go to the hospital today."
