Mason wiped a smear of blood from the corner of his mouth, stepping around Elena to face Alaric head-on.

"Alaric, whatever you want, I'll give it to you. Don't take this out on Elena."

Alaric kept his icy gaze locked entirely on Elena, pressing the issue. "Are you giving it to me or not?"

Elena hesitated, falling completely silent.

She knew perfectly well that Alaric had only allowed her to stay because she possessed the antidote.
