Buying My Forever Wife novel Chapter 155

Hearing Ivy's gentle words, a warm sweetness spread through Alaric's chest.

For a fleeting second, he wanted to abandon work altogether and fly straight home.

But then he forced himself to calm down and think rationally.

How could something like true romance ever fall into his lap?

What he and Ivy had was purely transactional.

Ivy's concern was just a way to squeeze more perks out of him.

And he treated her well only because she was willing to fulfill her wifely duties.

Real feelings would absolutely never spark between them.

He needed to instantly suffocate this romantic delusion, making sure it didn't fester and grow completely out of control.

With that resolved, Alaric said nothing further and coldly hung up the phone.

Next to him, his assistant Leo Archer murmured, "Boss, you haven't been home for a day. Is Mrs. Foster missing you?"

"Why don't you head back to be with her and Stella? I can handle the work on this end."

Alaric shot him a glacial glare.

"Do you think I'm the kind of man who would abandon his business for a woman? I'm not some lovesick teenager."

Annoyed by his assistant's ridiculous suggestion, Alaric banished the thoughts from his mind, leaning back on the sofa in his presidential suite and pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration.

Leo pressed his lips together, risking a scolding to push the issue.

"I didn't mean it like that. I just think she's young, and if you really want to make a life with her, you could be a little gentler. Show her some care, and your marriage will definitely be a happy one."

Truth be told, his boss was a good guy.

He was always handling things for Ivy behind the scenes.

But he refused to let her know about it.

And whenever he was actually around her, he acted like a block of ice.

How was she supposed to figure out how he felt when he acted like that?

Leo thought the two were actually a great match. If they could just get along, they could definitely build a solid future.

But if his boss kept up this hot-and-cold attitude—going out of town for days without a single text or call—it wasn't going to work.

There was no way a marriage could survive like that.

"Keep your opinions to yourself."
