The next morning.
At the breakfast table.
Stella tilted her head to look at Ivy, her big eyes blinking as she asked innocently,
"Mommy, where did you go last night? Why weren't you next to me when I woke up in the middle of the night?"
Ivy's eyes darted around, glancing sheepishly at the man across from her.
She thought about last night, sneaking back into the master bedroom after the child fell asleep.
And with Alaric...
Ivy's face suddenly flushed red. She patted the little girl's head and said,
"I just went to the bathroom."
Stella bought the excuse and continued eating, mumbling between bites,
"I thought Daddy called you away to bully you again. Let me check your injuries later. If you aren't healed, I'll have Elena come over to put medicine on them."
Ivy swallowed hard in embarrassment, forcing a quick smile.
"I'm fine, it's much better now."
Fortunately, she had reminded Alaric last night not to leave any more marks on her.
Otherwise, she would be covered in them today, and the child would worry again if she saw them.
"That's good."
Stella raised her chin to glare at Alaric across the table, issuing a fierce, childish warning.
"Daddy, I'm telling you, don't use your size to pick on Mommy. She's under my protection. If you dare bully her again, I'll pull your oxygen tube when you're sick."
Alaric looked at the kid helplessly and sighed.
"How long have you even been with her? I raised you from a baby, and you're already threatening to pull my oxygen tube for her?"
What an ungrateful little brat.
Threatening to pull life support at this age—what would she do when she grew up?
He didn't know how Ivy had trained the kid, but Stella was practically acting like her biological daughter now.
"Stella, you can't talk to your father like that."
Ivy also felt the child's words were inappropriate and quickly corrected her.
