Buying My Forever Wife novel Chapter 22

She wanted to tell him about what happened at Metropolitan General so Summer wouldn't get her way.

But she waited and waited, and Alaric still didn't come home.

She had no choice but to send him a message on her phone.

Knowing she was asking a favor, she deliberately added an affectionate term.

[Darling, Mrs. Gable has finished cooking dinner. When are you coming back? Stella and I are waiting for you to eat.]

At this moment, Alaric was at Foster Manor.

The luxurious, vintage-style dining room of the traditional Foster Manor was packed with people.

Today was the Foster family's monthly gathering.

Everyone who could make it was there.

Eleanor Foster sat at the head of the table, flanked by her sons, daughters-in-law, daughters, and sons-in-law. The grandchildren weren't even allowed at the main table.

Eleanor had lost her husband a few years ago and had three sons and two daughters.

Alaric was her youngest son, and also the most outstanding and capable.

The other four siblings were all married with children.

Alaric was the only one still single.

Every time they gathered for a meal, the old lady would turn her attention to Alaric and say earnestly:

"Alaric, you're in your thirties. Can't you consider your personal life for a moment? If you're really too busy to find someone, I can arrange it for you."

Alaric stared at the screen of his phone, looking at the term of endearment Ivy had used.

Strangely enough, he didn't feel disgusted.

Instead, his chest felt as if a feather had lightly brushed against it, sending a soft ripple through his heart.

It made him zone out for a moment, entirely missing his mother's words.

His older brother nudged him. "Alaric, Mom is talking to you."

Alaric snapped back to reality and looked at Eleanor.

"Uncle, Aunt, you don't know about this woman named Ivy. She's incredibly wicked and is constantly trying to seduce Ethan, dreaming of marrying into the Foster family. You have to keep a tight leash on Ethan."

Alaric paused in his tracks, his cold gaze piercing toward Summer.

"Summer, if you lack basic legal knowledge, I can pay for you to go back to school for two years. Do you not know that spreading slander is a crime?"

Hearing this, Summer jumped in fright.

She quickly stood up and moved to the side, suddenly becoming incredibly tense under Alaric's innate, intimidating presence.

But she refused to give up, insisting stubbornly:

"What I'm saying is the truth! Ivy is my classmate. Her family is dirt poor, and back in school, she used to steal things from people."

"She knew Ethan was my cousin and that his family was rich, so she deliberately approached him. If you don't believe me, you can check Ethan's bank records. He's transferred a lot of money to her."

Remembering that her youngest uncle had the final say over hospital matters, Summer struck while the iron was hot.

"Uncle Alaric, you have to fire Ivy immediately. Otherwise, by the time Ethan gets tricked out of his money and his heart, it'll be too late."
