Buying My Forever Wife novel Chapter 21

Thinking of what Mr. Foster had reminded her of last night.

She needed to have the self-awareness of being someone's wife and keep her distance from others.

Even if there was no affection between them as a married couple and they didn't even like each other, Ivy felt she still had to adhere to the boundaries and not make things uncomfortable for anyone else.

"Ivy, are you deliberately acting like this because of Summer Vance?"

Ethan Foster's eyes revealed a hint of gloom as he stared at Ivy's slender back, feeling a bitter taste in his mouth.

No one knew that ever since he first saw Ivy with Patrick Sterling, he had fallen in love at first sight.

If he hadn't cared about his friendship with Patrick, he would have stolen her away a long time ago.

But right now, it seemed she didn't want to give him a chance at all.

Ivy stopped in her tracks and turned to look at Ethan.

Knowing exactly what his intentions were, she simply rejected him outright.

"Thank you for your kindness, but regardless of whether Summer is in the picture or not, I will stay away from any man, and I certainly won't fall for anyone again."

"Just focus on recovering. Don't waste your pity on someone like me, I don't deserve it."

She turned and walked away.

She really hoped Ethan would just leave the hospital as soon as he healed, so he wouldn't stick around to watch her make a fool of herself.

But the more she acted like this, the more Ethan's heart ached for her.

The more he wanted to help her solve all her problems.

Ivy returned to the nurse's station, preparing to get medication before heading to the next room.

Summer walked up beside her and deliberately let a bottle of expensive medicine slip from her hands right next to Ivy.

With a loud crash, the glass bottle shattered on the floor, sending the liquid splattering everywhere.

Hearing the noise, the head nurse rushed over to check.

Summer quickly spoke up.

"Oh my, Ivy, how could you be so careless? I heard this medicine is incredibly expensive, costing hundreds of dollars a bottle."

Ivy stood there, completely unfazed, and looked at the head nurse.

"I didn't break it. You can check the security cameras."

"You... you actually don't believe me."

Summer's face twisted as she spat out a harsh threat.

"Just wait. I'll have you fired by tomorrow."

"I'll be waiting. And if I'm not fired by tomorrow, I suggest you stay far away from me in the future. Even a cornered dog will bite."

Ivy straightened her spine and walked forward.

She refused to lose to Summer in sheer presence.

What did Summer have anyway, other than being born into a better family?

The tables will turn eventually, and no one knew who would have the last laugh.

But deep down, Ivy was very aware of reality.

If Summer truly used her family's influence to get her fired, it would be a breeze.

And if she wanted to keep her job, she would probably have to go talk to her cold, indifferent husband.

That afternoon, after picking Stella Foster up and heading home, Ivy anxiously waited for Alaric Foster to return.
