Listening to her, Alaric's expression darkened into forged iron, a terrifying, icy aura radiating from his every pore.
The gaze he leveled at Patrick was practically dipped in liquid nitrogen.
He knew it. That woman, Ivy, was nothing but a vain gold-digger with zero morals.
So young, yet already hopping from boyfriend to boyfriend and stringing Ethan along in the process.
She was probably far from the innocent girl he thought she was.
And to think, he had actually entertained the idea of letting her fulfill her marital duties.
Just the thought of it now made Alaric feel physically sick.
He shifted his piercing glare back to Summer, changing the subject entirely. "Did you strike a child earlier?"
Summer flinched, instantly scrambling for excuses.
"It was Ivy! She deliberately made that brat ram into me and ruined the ice cream I stood in line forever to get. Uncle Alaric, Ivy is completely toxic! You have to stand up for me."
"Effective immediately, you are fired from Metropolitan General."
Alaric dismissed her frantic defense without a second thought and turned to Patrick.
"I hear you secured an internship at Foster Group because of her connections?"
Patrick stood rooted to the spot, his head hanging low, unsure if he should confess or deny it.
This CEO's presence was overwhelmingly suffocating.
Just by sitting there, he exuded the terrifying, oppressive aura of a monarch, making it nearly impossible for Patrick to breathe.
"You're fired too. Both of you, get out."
Alaric possessed zero tolerance for either of them.
One by one, these people did nothing but test his patience or exploit their connection to him to act like entitled tyrants.
If he didn't teach them a brutal lesson now, there was no telling what kind of catastrophic mess they would cause next using his name.
Hearing this, Summer and Patrick exchanged a horrified look, as if they had just been struck by lightning.
Summer's face immediately crumpled as she burst into fresh tears.
"No, please, Uncle Alaric! If you fire me, what other hospital will ever hire me? Besides, it wasn't even my fault! It was clearly that—"
Refusing to waste another second listening to her noise, Alaric stood up, grabbed his suit jacket, and walked out.
He had only come today for a routine operational inspection.
He certainly hadn't expected Ivy to bring his daughter to his very own entertainment center.
It didn't seem likely. The little girl was dressed head-to-toe in extravagant designer clothes.
Plus, she looked vaguely familiar. Summer swore she had seen that child somewhere before.
Patrick quickly clarified, "No, the older one is her sister. I've never seen the little one before."
A bitter pang hit Patrick. Now that he had been fired by the CEO, even if he married Summer, his chances of ever stepping foot inside Foster Group were zero.
Staring at Ivy now, a wave of nostalgia washed over him for the pure, simple love they used to share.
He couldn't help but wonder if he went back now and had his parents scrape together the $200,000 settlement, would Ivy still be willing to marry him?
Summer scoffed with malicious realization.
"If that's not her sister, then she must be playing nanny for some rich family. Just wait. I absolutely will not let her get away with this."
Still, she didn't dare stir up trouble with Ivy right this second.
Not with the terrifying possibility that her uncle was watching from the shadows.
Having lost all mood to play, Summer turned on her heel and stormed out.
Reluctantly, Patrick tore his gaze away from Ivy and trailed after her.
