If she was brazen enough to act like that, she shouldn't be afraid of being called out.
Besides, she had married him with ulterior motives from the very start.
Alaric absolutely despised women who approached him with hidden agendas.
Ivy needed to gain some self-awareness, hand him divorce papers, and pack her bags.
Until then, she was never going to see a pleasant side of him.
Out of the three of them, Stella was the only one who actually enjoyed the weekend camping trip.
Ivy and Alaric were both trapped in their own resentful thoughts.
They packed up and drove back to The Starlight Estate in heavy silence that afternoon.
Ivy spent the entire evening battling a miserable lump in her throat.
She ushered Stella into her bedroom early to get her washed up for bed.
But the moment she climbed into the little bed to cuddle, Stella shoved her away in protest.
"Mommy, all the kids at preschool say their mommies and daddies sleep in the same bed. You can't sleep here anymore. You have to go sleep with Daddy!"
Ivy froze, looking at the little girl with genuine hurt in her eyes.
"Are you already tired of me?"
Sleeping in the same bed as Alaric sounded like actual torture.
The man terrified her; she barely even wanted to breathe the same air as him right now.
She was terrified he would just hurl more venomous insults at her.
Terrified of that relentless judgment in his eyes, always accusing her of being a gold digger.
She had no way to defend herself.
Honestly, she could just demand a divorce and walk away right now.
But she couldn't bear to leave Stella.
And she was terrified that if she left him, Alaric would pull strings to get her fired from Metropolitan General.
Ivy took a deep breath, forcing herself to be rational. She couldn't act on impulse.
She couldn't throw her life away just because her husband was a cruel jerk.
For the sake of the money, her career, and avoiding being sold off by her parents to some decrepit old man, she had to swallow her pride and endure this a little longer.
"Mommy, you stay right here. If you leave, I'll be super mad!"
Mission accomplished, the tiny dictator spun on her heel, marched out, and slammed the door shut.
Ivy was paralyzed.
Alaric was equally stunned.
Both of them stood there in total shock.
How did a five-year-old come up with such a devious scheme?
She used to be so quiet and introverted, barely speaking a word to anyone.
Since Ivy arrived, her entire personality had flipped.
Alaric narrowed his eyes suspiciously at Ivy.
She stood there stiff as a board, her face burning with guilt and embarrassment.
Flustered, she scrambled to explain.
"I swear I didn't teach her to say any of that! I have no idea where she gets it. Just ignore me. Once she falls asleep, I'll sneak back out."
