But she didn't dare hang up, so she quickly added:
"I-I'm going to the restroom. You and Stella can chat."
With that, she practically fled, sprinting toward the bathroom.
Stella kept the camera aimed in the direction Ivy had run off.
Only when she was out of sight did Stella turn the camera back to herself and ask Alaric with a cheeky grin:
"Daddy, is your wife cute?"
Alaric realized that his daughter was becoming far too clever for her age.
Was she deliberately trying to play matchmaker for him and Ivy?
Did the little girl really like Ivy that much?
But then again.
That single "Darling" Ivy had just called him melted him right to the bone.
He didn't understand how a simple title could sound so melodious, making him feel so physically and mentally relaxed, his heart fluttering.
"Daddy, say something. Is your wife cute? Is she as cute as your precious daughter?"
Seeing her father stay silent for a long time, Stella raised her voice.
Alaric nodded and replied, "Yeah, she's cute. You're both cute."
The way Ivy looked just now was far more than just cute.
Her awkward, restrained demeanor made her look like a helpless little bunny.
Stella laughed again.
"Hehe, then Daddy, can Mommy and I video call you at this time every day?"
Listening to her, Alaric glanced at the time on his watch.
He realized this was dinnertime.
If he didn't return to the Starlight Estate, he usually stayed here to eat.
It wasn't very convenient.
He spoke to the child patiently and gently:
"Call me a little later. Call me right before you go to bed every night."
Stella thought that was fine too, nodding with a smile.
The father and daughter chatted for a few more minutes before hanging up.
But he didn't dare say anything either.
He was afraid his uncle would thrash him.
After that, no one ever dared to bring up the topic of little Stella again.
Alaric also refused to spend the night at the main estate, choosing to sleep alone at his apartment near the company.
He didn't want to go back to the Starlight Estate, afraid his daughter would make him and Ivy sleep in the same bed again.
That feeling was simply too torturous to endure.
So he could only stay somewhere else for now.
The assistant who had followed him for years and was currently driving looked at the boss resting with his eyes closed in the rearview mirror and couldn't help but speak up.
"Boss, this isn't a long-term solution."
Alaric opened his eyes and looked at him, seemingly prompting him to continue.
Leo understood why the boss was sleeping at the apartment late at night. Risking a scolding, he offered some advice:
"You and your wife are married, after all. This is a lifelong commitment. Running away won't solve the problem. You need to slowly build a connection with her."
"Over time, once there's affection, you'll be a real family. Otherwise, you can't just keep hoping she'll be the one to ask for a divorce, right?"
