Buying My Forever Wife novel Chapter 88

They could never reach the point of happiness.

Ivy knew her place well. In a year or two, when her parents stopped looking for her and she had saved up enough money to help her two younger sisters finish college.

She would return the $200,000 settlement to Alaric.

At that point, she could file for divorce and give him his freedom back.

At the thought of this, Ivy felt a tinge of sorrow and desolation.

Beside her, Stella reminded her again:

"Mommy, hurry up and call Daddy."

Ivy snapped out of her thoughts and reluctantly took her phone to video call Alaric.

Alaric had just arrived at the apartment.

Before he could even take a shower, the video call rang again.

He glanced at it; it was still Ivy's profile picture.

It must be his daughter calling.

He answered without hesitation.

But this time, the face he saw was actually Ivy's.

Ivy saw the man on the screen wearing only a vest and dress shirt. Beneath his messy, textured short hair was a flawless, authoritative face.

She suddenly felt her heart pounding wildly, her throat going dry.

But she didn't dare hesitate, immediately saying:

"Um, I-I just wanted to let you know that Stella has been a good girl and she's already in bed."

"Mhm."

Alaric replied coldly.

Looking at him, Ivy really didn't know what else to say.

She wanted to hang up.

Stella immediately piped up from the side:

"Mommy, you're not listening. You didn't even call him Darling."

Ivy was on the verge of tears. Why was this child doing this?

Why force her to do things she couldn't do?

If she was too forward, he would just think she was shameless again.

"Call him, Mommy. If you don't, I'm going to be so mad."

Stella crossed her arms over her chest, her little face scrunched up, puffing her cheeks in mock anger.

Ivy was truly terrified of her.

Ivy also knew that Alaric was her biological uncle, after all.

Uncles usually sided with their nieces.

So, would Alaric fire her?

Would he kick her out of the Starlight Estate just to get back at her for Summer?

Ivy was quite worried.

Alaric stared at the girl in the video.

Seeing how pathetic she looked, as if she were about to cry.

He figured she must have suffered a massive grievance at the hospital.

Besides, he had indeed heard Summer claim that Ivy married an old man.

If he had known, he would have slapped Summer a few more times.

Alaric sat up straight, his expression unchanged.

"How did you fire back?"

Ivy tried hard to steady her emotions. Though she felt a little embarrassed, she could only tell the truth:

"I told her I absolutely did not marry an old man. My husband is very young and very handsome."
