Buying My Forever Wife novel Chapter 95

That evening.

Ivy had just tucked Stella into bed when the rumble of a luxury engine echoed from the driveway below.

Curious, she padded over to the window and peered out.

Sure enough, a sleek car was pulling into the courtyard.

Was Mr. Foster back?

Didn't he say he was going on a business trip for a week?

Why was he back after only two days?

Ivy adjusted the duvet around Stella, pulled on a cardigan, and quietly descended the stairs.

She had learned her lesson from last time; she made sure to flip the light switch first.

The moment the grand chandelier illuminated the living room, Alaric strode through the front door, his impeccably tailored suit accentuating his tall, commanding frame.

She hurried down the final steps, offering a polite nod.

"Mr. Foster, you're back early. Have you eaten dinner?"

Alaric hadn't had much of an appetite for the past two days.

Noticing the absence of the housekeeper, he unbuttoned his jacket, sank onto the plush sofa, and asked, "Where is Mrs. Gable?"

Ivy followed him into the lounge. "She had a family emergency and took some time off. She should be back in a day or two."

"If you're hungry, I can whip something up for you."

Alaric suddenly recalled that his young wife was actually an exceptional cook.

Not wanting to be overly demanding, he casually replied, "Just throw together a bowl of pasta."

"Alright, give me thirty minutes."

Ivy immediately hurried toward the kitchen.

Alaric stared at her slender, retreating figure, his brow furrowing.

She didn't look the least bit depressed to him.

In fact, she seemed perfectly fine.

Realizing his daughter had likely orchestrated a massive lie just to drag him home, Alaric sighed heavily, leaning back and pinching the bridge of his nose in exhaustion.

He had barely slept the past two nights.

The sudden quiet of the house lulled him into a sense of security, and before he knew it, he had drifted off to sleep.

"I... I just saw you were sleeping, and I didn't want you to catch a chill. I was just giving you a blanket."

Alaric sat up straighter. Glancing down and confirming the blanket, he immediately released her, though his tone remained sharp.

"Don't ever sneak up on me like that again."

If his reflexes had been any faster, he would have snapped her arm in two without a second thought.

"Understood."

Ivy took a quick step back, gesturing toward the coffee table.

"Mr. Foster, your food is ready."

Alaric gave a curt grunt of acknowledgement and leaned forward to grab the fork.

He wasn't sure if he was just starving, but the first bite was utterly phenomenal.

It was just a simple bowl of pasta.

How could it possibly taste this exquisite?

Glancing up at Ivy, who was still hovering nearby, he asked, "What did you put in this?"

Ivy quickly explained, "Just some soy sauce and sesame oil. Nothing fancy."
