Divorce Countdown (Amelia and Julian) novel Chapter 20

Divorce Count Down Chapter 20

After her hangover, Amelia slept straight through to the afternoon.

Stella had already gone to work. After a simple lunch, Amelia felt rather bored, so she grabbed her bag and went out, planning to check off a few items from the plans she had made a few days ago.

She picked up a fruit basket at the fruit shop downstairs, then took a taxi directly to the law firm to meet Lewis.

Over the past two months, Lewis had put a lot of effort into her divorce, upholding the law and ensuring her information security, acting as a go-between to relay many messages, and probably often advising Julian as well, which was why the divorce went so smoothly.

Lewis had done far more than a lawyer’s duty. Amelia always felt she had troubled him too much and felt a bit guilty, so she decided to thank him in person.

When he learned that the two of them had already received their divorce certificate, a look of regret appeared on Lewis’s face.

“Ms. Leighton, why did you keep it from me back then?”

Amelia truly felt sorry toward Lewis.

“Mr. Fitzroy, if you don’t mind, just call me Ļia.”

“I didn’t really mean to keep it from you. It’s just, as you know, our marriage was a secret and not made public. I didn’t want to put you in a difficult position, so I didn’t tell you about it.”

Mentioning the secret marriage, Lewis could understand her, so he didn’t press the issue further.

“Yes, it’s all Jules’s fault. He shouldn’t have kept it from us. I heard you two were old classmates for years, and now you’ve divorced so hastily. I’m afraid the knot in your hearts hasn’t been untied, has it? Are you really not planning to keep in touch anymore?”

This question struck a chord with Amelia.

Before yesterday, she had planned to cut off all contact with Julian.

But seeing his attitude yesterday, she felt it would be hard to make a clean break.

Not to mention their classmate relationship, just explaining the divorce to her parents was already giving her a headache.

Given her parents’ temperaments, they would probably have to confront Julian before letting it go, and she would have to explain things to him in advance.
