He Gave Me Hearing, Then Taught Me What Silence Really Means novel Chapter 171

Nadine couldn't take it anymore, her jaw clenching with pure frustration.

But Beatrice was completely satisfied. Sitting by the hospital bed, she mused, "If Dr. Vaughn is willing to help, maybe we can figure out your father's medication. That would be wonderful."

Brooks opened his mouth to say something, but ultimately snapped it shut.

Meanwhile, Alistair supported Juniper as she staggered to the restroom entrance. She collapsed over the sink, vomiting uncontrollably. A blinding headache ripped through her skull, and cold sweat drenched her skin.

Alistair pulled a tissue to wipe her brow, his eyebrows knitting together. "You're way too tense. If you keep this up, you're going to get sick."

He pressed two fingers to her wrist to check her pulse, his voice gentle. "Let's get you home to rest."

Juniper leaned against the tiled wall, her face entirely drained of color.

"Thank you."

Alistair waited until she caught her breath, then draped an arm around her shoulders to guide her downstairs. "Do you suffer from severe insomnia?"

She didn't even have the strength to answer. Her foot missed a step, and she stumbled. Alistair immediately pulled her into his arms to steady her.

He had to wrap his hand around her waist to keep her upright, realizing her entire body had gone limp.

Alistair lowered his gaze. After a brief moment of hesitation, he gently patted her back. "Don't rely on sleeping pills all the time. It'll only make your insomnia worse in the long run."

But without the pills, she couldn't get a single night of decent sleep.

Leaning against Alistair's chest for a fleeting second, she desperately wanted to push him away, but her fingers were trembling violently. She was shaking uncontrollably.

That suffocating feeling was creeping back in.

She lowered her eyelashes and rested her head against his shoulder.

Not far away, Nelson stood in silence, watching the entire scene unfold. He watched as she leaned into Alistair with total trust, and he watched Alistair's arm wrap securely around her waist.

They looked like the perfect match.

Macy stood beside him, catching the predatory chill radiating from Nelson. Terrified, she instinctively took a step back.

She had heard from her mother last night that Walter was in critical condition and that Juniper was here. She had only come today to check on things.

She never expected to run into Nelson.

She had always been terrified of him, constantly paranoid that her past mistakes would be exposed.
