He Gave Me Hearing, Then Taught Me What Silence Really Means novel Chapter 192

Quinn had no idea what the man was talking about, but it was obvious he had been severely triggered.

"Boss, you need to take your medication first."

Nelson smacked the pills away. He clutched his chest, squeezing his eyes shut as heavy drops of sweat rolled down his face.

Quinn didn't dare say another word.

After a long while, Nelson murmured hoarsely, "Might as well let me die."

After all, no one would care anyway.

Quinn assumed he was just talking deliriously and asked softly, "Should we head back now?"

Nelson didn't respond, looking as if he had fallen asleep.

Without an explicit order, Quinn didn't dare move the car and simply parked by the side of the road.

Inside the house, Juniper welcomed Alistair and carefully examined his glasses, realizing they were completely ruined.

"I'm sorry for dragging you into this."

Alistair unpacked the food he had brought and set it on the dining table, his tone as gentle as ever. "He broke them, not you. You don't need to apologize. Besides, I've had these glasses for years—it was time for a new pair anyway."

Juniper knew he was just comforting her, so she didn't push the subject. Instead, she asked, "Does your face hurt? I can go boil a couple of eggs to help with the swelling."

"Juniper, eat your dinner first."

She finally relented and sat down at the table, eating in quiet compliance.

Alistair went to the fridge, found an ice pack, and applied it to his cheek.

He didn't say anything else, just sat quietly beside her. Despite the silence, Juniper didn't feel awkward at all. Perhaps her mind was just too clouded right now; even though she was physically present, her thoughts felt as though they were sinking into mud.

She managed to eat a small portion before Alistair moved closer to check her wrist.

He applied a fresh layer of ointment. "It might itch a bit as it heals. Remember not to scratch it."

The moment he finished speaking, a massive storm broke out outside, accompanied by immediate flashes of lightning and booming thunder.

Looking through the floor-to-ceiling windows, they could see the trees whipping wildly in the wind.

Leaving in this weather would be too dangerous.
