"Josie starts at St. Jude's Academy the day after tomorrow. I've already cleared it with the administration. Can you come with me to drop her off?"

He gave a noncommittal hum. "My stomach is acting up," she added. "Could you go grab me some medicine?"

He grabbed his jacket and stood. "Did you skip lunch?"

"I was in a meeting with the academy all afternoon. I lost track of time."

He headed for the door without another word.

Lydia watched him walk away.

Backlit by the hallway lights, his towering six-foot-two frame commanded attention. Nelson was, without a doubt, the most striking man she had ever known. She lowered her lashes, a flush of warmth spreading through her chest. Thank god he was finally on her side.
