He Gave Me Hearing, Then Taught Me What Silence Really Means novel Chapter 69

Juniper's chest heaved with fury. "You psycho!"

Nelson lazily turned to the officer. "Does she have any evidence to back up this accusation?"

Juniper didn't have a shred of proof. She had pleaded with the police to pull the security tapes from The Sovereign Grand, but the footage had already been wiped completely clean. Even the hallway cameras were erased—it was as if Nelson had never even set foot in the building.

For a man of his status, his movements were strictly off the grid. Even if the authorities genuinely wanted to pursue it, tracing him was nearly impossible.

They had been demanding evidence from her long before Nelson even walked through the door.

She couldn't provide any.

But she refused to just swallow the violation.

Everything she had been taught growing up dictated that you go to the police when something terrible happens. But sitting there, interrogated to the point of silence, and then watching Nelson casually stroll in—all her suffocating rage finally found a target.

She even had to sit there and listen to Nelson blatantly lie to the officers. "She's been trying to get with me. I turned her down."

"Nelson! You shameless bastard!"

The officer frowned deeply, looking back and forth between the two of them.

Both were impeccably dressed. Nelson's striking looks and effortless arrogance screamed old money and untouchable power.

But Juniper looked so earnest and fragile; she hardly seemed like the type to fabricate a malicious claim.

"Ms. Lane, I need you to repeat your statement. You are absolutely certain that Mr. Saint assaulted you, correct?"

The room only held the three of them—plus Julian, who was shamelessly eavesdropping from the doorway.

Leaning casually against the wall with his arms crossed, Julian finally got a clear look at Juniper's face.

Hearing the officer's question, Juniper bit her lip so hard it almost bled. "Yes..."

"Alright. If you cannot provide any concrete evidence, we'll have to reach out to your family."

At those words, she slowly lowered her head. "No... please don't."

Her voice was already hoarse, but it cracked further, dropping so low it was almost a whisper. "I want to go home. I'm sorry for wasting your time."

The officer had been doing his job. He had brought Nelson in despite clearly recognizing exactly who the man was, based purely on her distress.

But hearing her suddenly backpedal, the officer's frown deepened. "So, Ms. Lane, are you admitting to filing a false police report?"
