Juniper didn't back down an inch. "If you still have a problem with it, don't bother coming in tomorrow. I'll explain it to Caleb myself. You can pack your things right now."
Jade's fists clenched in fury, glaring daggers at Juniper. "I'm sorry! Happy now?"
The other colleagues quickly intervened. "Jade, come on, give Juniper a proper apology."
Jade's neck stiffened, her jaw clenched so tight her teeth nearly cracked. Finally, she lowered her gaze and softened her tone. "I understand. I'm sorry."
Juniper frowned slightly but didn't press the issue.
She was willing to give people a second chance.
Taking a deep breath, she offered the team a reassuring smile. "Our studio is only going to grow from here. The team will expand, and what is currently a basic division of labor will eventually turn into separate departments. As long as you stick with me and do your jobs well, those department head positions have your names on them. Let's call it a night. Starting tomorrow, we'll run two livestreams simultaneously. This new batch of inventory should pull in a massive wave of traffic."
Standing nearby, Jade rolled her eyes at what she saw as Juniper's pretentious posturing, but she couldn't afford to lose this job.
Everyone knew the auction house was going through a massive restructuring. They were all originally Caleb's people, and with the Xavier family changing leadership, the new boss was never going to keep old loyalists around.
Being transferred to this studio right now was essentially a lifeline for their careers. At the very least, they were safe from the new boss's crosshairs here.
Night fell. Jade was walking to her car when a text from an unknown number lit up her phone.
She glanced at it, her pupils shrinking drastically. Instinctively, she looked around the empty parking lot.
Her heart raced as she gripped the phone.
The sender claimed that if she helped get rid of Juniper, the position of studio manager would be hers.
Her palms went slick with sweat. She wasn't sure what "get rid of" meant.
The mysterious contact laid out a plan, though it required her to make a small sacrifice.
Jade pressed her lips into a thin line. She knew Juniper had come from the same small-town background she had. Jade had clawed her way up alone for years, saving up a decent nest egg, yet buying a house in the city was still an impossible dream. Why did Juniper get to fast-track her life, living in a luxury villa and running a whole studio?!
