Parrish leaned back into his seat, his fingers gently tracing the rim of his glass, a look of contempt crossing his features.
"If she would just swallow her pride and beg me, one word from me could get her mother transferred to the best hospital in Harlow City, with the best doctors. It would certainly save her from having to rely on those shady folk remedies to keep her mother alive."
Curtis hastily grabbed the bottle, pouring Parrish another drink with extreme fawning eagerness.
"Exactly! I'll definitely talk some sense into her later. She's usually pretty smart. I don't know why she's being so stupid right now, not clinging to you when she has the chance."
Parrish stared at the swirling liquor in his glass, his eyes narrowing slightly.
That was exactly what he thought, too.
Bonnie's coldness and resistance over the past few days were nothing more than a woman's petty pride acting up—a manifestation of her sudden insecurity and confusion upon facing his true identity.
Once life backed her into a corner and reality smashed her head in, she would naturally realize that only he, Parrish York, could save her.
When that time came, she would come back to him just like before, red-eyed and submissive, willingly surrendering herself to him.
He was looking forward to that day.
...
That night, at Riverstone Heights.
Bonnie sat at the dining table, eating quietly, but she couldn't shake the feeling of a heavy gaze resting on her, full of scrutiny.
She looked up and caught Quentin's deep, cold eyes.
Bonnie's heart skipped a beat, and she awkwardly set her fork down.
"Is... the food not to your liking tonight?"
Quentin hadn't touched his meal, simply staring at her with those eyes that seemed capable of seeing through everything.
"Stay away from Sterling Lennox."
He suddenly spoke, his voice low and commanding.
Bonnie froze.
Sterling Lennox?
The name sounded vaguely familiar. She had probably seen it on the hospital's staff directory, but she couldn't match it to a face right away.
A few seconds later, it finally clicked, and her eyes widened in shock.
"Are you talking about... Dr. Lennox, the hospital director at Davenport?"
Quentin gave a cold, "Mhm."
Bonnie couldn't help but laugh out loud, the tension in her body completely evaporating.
