I Stopped Waiting and Started Loving novel Chapter 45

On the video call, Curtis was sitting in the back of a taxi, the sheer excitement still plastered all over his face.

"Bonnie, do you want to get your mom transferred to a better hospital?"

Bonnie frowned. "What are you talking about?"

"What am I talking about? Your boyfriend—oh, wait, no, Parrish! He's the CEO of the York Group!!"

Curtis was yelling so excitedly he was practically spitting at the screen, his eyes burning with fanaticism.

"The York family owns top-tier medical facilities. All Parrish has to do is say the word, and your mom could be in a VIP suite using the best medication available! Stop throwing a tantrum and just apologize to him! Beg him, and this whole thing is sorted!"

Bonnie found the entire situation utterly absurd, a strong wave of irritation rising in her chest.

"Curtis, I'm going to say this one last time. We are broken up."

"Are you stupid?!"

Curtis panicked, his eyes bulging out on the screen. "He's the CEO of the York Group! He's worth billions of dollars! You could work your fingers to the bone your entire life and never even earn a fraction of what he has!"

"Is it because he used to need you, and now you need him? Are you embarrassed? Feeling a little insecure?"

"How much is your insecurity worth? Is it going to save your mother's life? Hurry up and unblock his number! Seriously, I'm not just saying this—you're acting completely brain-dead right now!"

Bonnie closed her eyes, forcefully suppressing the rage boiling in her chest. She turned her attention to the corner of the screen where her best friend had remained totally silent.

"Jas, rein in your boyfriend. Tell him to stop acting like a lunatic."

However, on the screen, Jasmine guiltily averted her eyes from Bonnie's.

Her voice was as tiny as a mosquito's. "Bonnie... I'm sorry."

"Parrish... wait, I mean Mr. York. He offered us a job today. He told Curtis to bring me to the York Group tomorrow to set us up with salaried positions."

"I know it was awful that he lied to you, but... Bonnie, can we just not turn down the money?"

Bonnie stared at her best friend in utter disbelief. "Jas, did you forget how you were defending me just a few days ago? Did you forget how disgusting all his lies were?"

Jasmine's eyes grew red. She struggled for a moment before suddenly turning to yell at Curtis.

"Curtis! Maybe... maybe you should just go alone tomorrow. I want to stay by Bonnie's side. Parrish went way too far, and my current job is fine anyway. I don't really want to leave."

"Jasmine, is your brain full of water?!"

Curtis instantly exploded on the video call, screaming at her. "Bonnie is being an idiot, and you want to join her? Do you still want to marry me or not?"

"It's a full salary! An executive salary! If we work there for just one year, we might be able to buy a house in Harlow City!"

Jasmine cried even harder, caught in absolute misery between her boyfriend and her best friend.

Watching her best friend's distressed face, Bonnie sighed softly.
