Chapter 1095
And now he was blaming all of it on her.
Yara could barely take it.
Evan closed his eyes.
“I shouldn’t have saved you.”
As he said the words, tears slipped from beneath his closed lids.
It hurt.
God, it hurt.
The relentless ache in his chest had not eased at all over the past two weeks.
If anything, it had only grown worse.
The pain was unbearable.
He was afraid to sleep.
Every time he closed his eyes, he saw what he had seen in the Blackwater region that day.
“So you’re blaming me now?” Yara asked through her tears.
The truth was, she blamed herself too.
Every time she thought about Stella dying because of her, the guilt became almost impossible to bear.
“No,” Evan said. “I blame myself.”
Yara fell silent.
“I was too arrogant. I thought I could protect her…”
His voice broke before he could finish.
Then he slapped himself across the face again and again.
He hated himself enough to want to beat himself senseless.
Why?
Why had he been so damn sure of everything?
He had convinced himself that Aaron was Stella’s biological brother and would never truly let her die.
He had convinced himself that no matter where Stella was, he would always be able to keep her safe.
And he had convinced himself that she simply wouldn’t die.
He had been so certain about far too many things.
But he had forgotten one crucial fact.
Aaron might never have intended to kill Stella.
But Silas’s people had been there that day too.
Sas had been tied to Litt through everything.
Now that Litt was dead, how could Silas not hate them?
That hatred was enough to make him want to destroy every one of them.
