My CEO HUSBAND sign the divorce novel Chapter 272

Chapter 272: "Family?"

Third Person POV

"Family?"

That was the only word repeating itself in Karen’s mind as they drove back to the hotel.

What family was Chairman Blackwood talking about?

Before she started working for him, she had been informed that Chairman Blackwood and his wife had separated two years ago after she left him.

So...

What family?

Karen was so deep in thought that she didn’t even realize Alexander had been speaking to her.

Seeing no response, Alexander called again, his voice slightly louder this time.

"Karen, can’t you hear me?"

His irritated tone immediately snapped her out of her thoughts.

She quickly looked up.

"I’m sorry, sir. What did you say?"

Alexander frowned.

"What were you thinking about? I’ve been talking to you for a while."

Karen lowered her head apologetically.

"I’m sorry, sir. It won’t happen again."

Alexander didn’t dwell on it.

Instead, he began giving instructions.

"Make the necessary preparations for the rest of the team to return to Velaridge City, then report back to me."

Karen blinked in confusion.

"Sir?"

Alexander looked at her calmly.

"Do you want me to repeat myself?"

She hurriedly shook her head.

"That’s not what I meant, sir."

She cautiously glanced at him before asking,

"Sir... aren’t we leaving as well?"

Alexander remained silent for a moment before answering,

"Not yet."

"I still have something I need to do."

Herbert’s earlier conversation with Alexander immediately resurfaced in Karen’s mind, causing her brows to knit together.

"Sir... what’s so important that you can’t let someone else handle it for you?"

Alexander turned his head and looked at her.

"Do you also want to follow them back?"

Karen immediately shook her head.

"No, sir."

"I’ll make the necessary preparations right away."

Alexander gave a slight nod before turning his attention back to the scenery outside the window.

Though his eyes were on Rosewood Town...

His thoughts remained occupied with Alicia.

Meanwhile, Karen was equally preoccupied by Alexander’s earlier words.

That evening, Karen was in Alexander’s suite, backing up his calls just as she always did, making sure to keep track of every important piece of information.

The suite consisted of a spacious living room and a bedroom.

Karen sat in the living room with her laptop open and Alexander’s phone in her hand, while Alexander remained in the bedroom, handling work.

Even though he was on a business trip, there were still countless matters in Velaridge City that required his attention.

The first recording was a call Alexander made with one of the shareholders about the partnership with Whitemore Industries when they first arrived in Rosewood Town.

"Chairman Blackwood, I heard you’ve already gone to Rosewood Town. You should have just sent someone else rather than stressing yourself."

He was clearly trying to sweet-talk Alexander, but Alexander didn’t even give him the chance to continue.

"Do you have anything important to say?" he replied coldly.

Karen smiled.

One of the things she liked about Alexander was how straightforward he was. He never gave anyone the chance to disrespect him.

The only problem...

Was that he treated everyone the same way.

Even her.

She had tried many times to warm his heart, but to no avail.

Sometimes, she often wondered if staying by his side had been a mistake.

The conversation continued for a while before Alexander finally hung up.

The next recording was from when Alexander returned to the hotel after leaving the company.

The caller was CEO Tristin.

"I know."

Alexander let out a quiet laugh.

"You had to force me to come here."

"And the first person I ran into was my daughter."

Karen’s ears rang.

She couldn’t hear the rest of the conversation.

How could this happen?

She had been assured that Alexander’s wife was gone for good.

Then how could he suddenly find her like this?

How could Alicia be his wife and aimy, their daughter?.

No wonder she had always felt there was something unusual about the way Alexander looked at Alicia.

She was the wife who had left him.

She and her daughter were the family Alexander had been talking about.

The reason he was sending everyone else back to Velaridge City while he stayed behind.

Karen slowly clenched her fists until her knuckles turned white.

No.

She couldn’t let this happen.

She couldn’t let everything she had done...

Everything she had sacrificed...

Go to waste.

She had left her life abroad.

Despite her father’s status, she had chosen to work as Alexander’s assistant for almost a year.

And now that she had finally fallen in love with him...

Someone from the past was going to return and ruin everything?

No.

She wouldn’t accept that.

Karen managed to complete the backup and returned Alexander’s phone to him.

After that, she returned to her room and quickly took out her phone to make a call.

"Karen, didn’t I tell you to stop calling me unless it’s neces....."

"I have something to ask you," Karen quickly cut Angela Blackwood off...
