My CEO HUSBAND sign the divorce novel Chapter 275

Chapter 275: Protect our peaceful life.

I stood there, frozen and unable to move, as Alexander walked toward me.

When he stopped in front of me, his eyes never left my face.

Neither did mine.

"Do you prefer to talk while standing?" he asked, amusement lacing his voice before letting out a soft chuckle.

Really?

He was actually chuckling at a time like this.

Without replying, I quietly sat down on the bench.

A moment later, he sat beside me.

Silence settled between us.

Neither of us knew where to begin.

I turned my attention to Aimy, who was happily running around the garden, chasing a butterfly as it fluttered from one flower to another.

"She’s so free-spirited."

Alexander was the first to break the silence.

I glanced at him briefly and realized he was watching Aimy with eyes filled with unmistakable affection.

I quickly looked away.

"It’s a good thing she didn’t take after either of us in that aspect."

He turned to me, a slight frown appearing between his brows.

"What is that supposed to mean?"

I shrugged lightly.

"Have you ever seen yourself when you’re happy?"

I looked back at Aimy before adding,

"I’m definitely not like that."

"Yes, you are."

The words escaped my mouth before I could stop them.

"How would you know that?"

The moment I said it, I regretted it.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him lower his head.

But it was the truth.

Alexander hardly knew anything about me.

That was one of the many things I had come to realize during the two years I’d spent here.

Our two years of marriage had revolved around me trying to warm his heart.

Somewhere along the way, I had forgotten to understand my own.

Back then...

I had mistaken loving Alexander for being happy.

It wasn’t until I came to Rosewood Town that I discovered what happiness truly felt like.

A long silence followed.

Then I heard his hoarse voice.

"I’m sorry."

"I’m sorry I wasn’t there."

"I’m sorry you had to go through everything alone."

I finally turned to look at him.

"There’s nothing to apologize for, Alexander."

"I chose to leave."

His gaze immediately lifted.

"But I was the one who pushed you into making that choice."

His voice was filled with guilt.

I took a slow breath.

"Alexander..."

"You’ve apologized."

"But that doesn’t change what happened."

He nodded faintly.

"I know."

"I don’t expect you to forgive me overnight."

He swallowed hard before continuing.

"I just..."

"I just want one chance."

"One chance to prove that I’m no longer the same man."

His voice was almost pleading.

For the first time since we met again, I looked straight into his eyes.

Regret.

Desperation.

And something...

Something I never thought I’d see.

Love?

No...

That couldn’t be right.

It looked so sincere...

So genuine...

That for a brief moment,

I almost believed it.

Almost.

Then memories from two years ago came rushing back.

The day Sophie and I went shopping.

Running into Alexander and Lilian at the restaurant.

His calm voice telling Lilian he didn’t love me.

Without hesitation.

Without even the slightest pause.

He had said that even if she never came back...

He still would have divorced me.

Then there was the conversation I’d overheard between him and Aunt Angela.

How he had wanted to end our marriage from the very beginning.

How could someone who had been so certain back then...

Suddenly claim to love me now?

A hollow laugh escaped my lips.

Alexander frowned.

"If this conversation is about Aimy..."

I turned to look at my daughter, who was still laughing as she chased another butterfly before meeting his gaze again.

"You’ll always be her father."

"I’ll never take that away from you."

I spoke calmly.

"But if this conversation is about us..."

I paused.

"Then there’s nothing left to talk about."

"There isn’t a future for us anymore."

He opened his mouth to speak.

Before he could, the sound of tiny footsteps interrupted us.

"Mummy!"

"I want water."

Aimy ran over and stopped in front of me before curiously looking at Alexander.

Her little brows furrowed in confusion.

I hesitated for only a second before forcing a small smile.

"Baby..."

"Say hello to Uncle."

After all...

That was how she’d known him since they met.

I couldn’t suddenly tell her that this man...

Was her father.

Aimy looked at Alexander obediently.

"Hello, Uncle."

Alexander froze for the briefest moment.

Then a gentle smile appeared on his face.

"Hello."

He walked around the car before opening Aimy’s door.

The moment he unbuckled her seatbelt, she jumped into his arms with a bright smile.

"Let’s go, Uncle!"

She giggled.

Alexander chuckled softly.

"Slow down."

"I’ll carry you."

Knowing Aimy it isn’t surprising that she’s used to Alexander already.

She gets along with anyone that’s nice to her, despite that,

Watching the two of them together...

For a brief moment...

They looked just like an ordinary father and daughter.

Alexander carried Aimy out of the car, but the moment her feet touched the ground, she wriggled free from his arms.

"Let’s go play, Aunt Anna!"

Without waiting for a response, she grabbed Anna’s hand and happily pulled her toward the playground.

Anna laughed helplessly as she allowed herself to be dragged away.

Before long, the two of them were chasing each other across the grass, Aimy’s cheerful laughter echoing throughout the park.

I remained where I was, quietly watching them.

The smile on my face appeared almost unconsciously.

Then...

I sensed someone stop beside me.

I didn’t need to turn around.

Somehow, I already knew it was him.

After a brief moment, I glanced sideways.

Alexander was standing with his hands tucked into his pockets, his eyes fixed on Aimy.

There was no sadness in them.

Only tenderness.

Only affection.

It was the kind of gaze only a parent would have when looking at their child.

After a long silence, I finally spoke.

"You know..."

"You can come and see her whenever you want."

He slowly turned to look at me.

I kept my eyes on Aimy as I continued.

"The door to our home will always be open to you."

"You don’t need permission to see your daughter."

For a brief second, hope flickered across his face.

Then it quickly turned into desperation.

"Alicia..."

"Can we talk about this properly?"

His voice was low, almost pleading.

I looked away.

My heart ached.

Because the truth was...

I had already made my decision.

I couldn’t simply stop loving someone I had loved for years.

Feelings don’t disappear overnight.

But love alone wasn’t enough anymore.

Not after everything that had happened.

Not when I had finally found peace.

And not when Aimy’s future depended on the choices I made today.

Alexander was Aimy’s father.

That was a fact no one could ever change.

And I would never try to take that away from him.

But I could still protect the peaceful life the two of us had built....
