I immediately glanced at Aimy.
Her head rested weakly on Alexander’s shoulder, but she didn’t seem to understand anything.
"Of course," Alexander answered without hesitation.
Still carrying Aimy with one arm, he accepted the pen with his free hand and signed the form.
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed President Evan freeze.
His eyes widened ever so slightly.
He had obviously heard what the nurse had said.
I lowered my gaze for a moment before looking back at Alexander.
He handed the document back to the nurse, then looked at me.
"Let’s go."
I nodded quietly.
Together, we walked toward the hospital entrance, with President Evan following silently behind us.
We went downstairs to the garage, where Aunt Margaret and Anna were already waiting.
"Aunt, you should head back to the mansion and get some rest," I said.
She smiled gently and shook her head.
"I’m perfectly fine, Alicia. I’ll go back after I see you off."
"No, Aunt," I insisted softly. "You should really go home and rest."
She looked at me for a long moment before stepping forward and pulling me into a hug.
"Sometimes," she whispered into my ear, "a mother has to make sacrifices for her children."
My body stiffened slightly.
Before I could ask what she meant, she had already let go.
She simply smiled at me one last time before turning around and getting into the car Anna and I had arrived in.
I stood there silently, her words echoing over and over in my mind as the car disappeared from sight.
Not long after, President Evan also got into his car and drove away.
Alexander had already settled Aimy inside our car, so Anna and I climbed into the back seat while Alexander sat in the front.
Soon, the driver started the engine and headed toward the airport.
I quietly watched the familiar streets and buildings pass by through the window.
Little by little...
The town where I had spent the last two years faded behind us.
A strange knot tightened in my chest.
I had never expected that leaving this place would make me feel so emotional.
When we arrived at the airport, I was surprised to see Uncle Herbert and Aunt Veronica already waiting for us.
The car came to a stop.
I stepped out and reached for Aimy, but before I could lift her, Alexander gently carried her into his own arms.
Still half-asleep, she instinctively rested her head against his shoulder.
The sight warmed my heart.
Ever since she woke up, Aimy had been unusually weak.
But I had noticed that whenever Alexander was around, she always seemed more at ease.
"Uncle," I said guiltily, "you didn’t have to leave the office just to see us off."
He smiled warmly.
"How could I not?"
Aunt Veronica stepped forward and held my hands.
"Don’t forget to take care of yourself, alright?"
"And call me as soon as you land," she added.
I nodded.
"I will, Aunt."
My eyes began to sting.
"Thank you... for always being there for me."
Aunt Veronica smiled gently before wiping away the tears gathering in my eyes.
"Oh, come now," Uncle Herbert chuckled. "You’re talking as though you’re never coming back."
He paused before adding more seriously,
"Alicia," Alexander called gently from the boarding stairs.
I looked back at Anna one last time before stepping forward and wrapping my arms around her.
She hugged me tightly in return.
"Come back soon," she whispered.
"I will."
Only after we pulled away did Anna turn around and slowly walk back toward the car, wiping the tears from her eyes.
After exchanging our final goodbyes, we boarded the private jet.
Standing by the cabin window, I watched as Uncle Herbert and Aunt Veronica remained where they were, looking up at us until the aircraft doors closed.
A few moments later, they returned to their car and slowly drove away.
I continued staring through the window until they disappeared from sight.
Only then did I finally realize...
I had truly left home.
The Blackwood family had two private jets—one used for corporate trips and the other reserved for personal travel.
Since Alexander and I had never been on any private trips together, I’d never stepped inside the private one until today.
Only after seeing that the car outside had disappeared did I turn around and study the place properly.
The cabin was elegant and luxurious, decorated in warm cream and dark walnut tones that made it feel less like an aircraft and more like a high-end living space. Plush leather seats occupied the lounge area, while a dining table and a small bar were arranged farther inside.
Beyond them was a door I assumed led to a private suite.
Karen was standing by the entrance to the suite, talking to a familiar man dressed in a medical uniform. I furrowed my brows. No medical staff had been assigned to us at Rosewood Town Hospital, so where had this one come from?
I glanced around but didn’t see Alexander.
I walked over and was about to ask Karen, when the suite door opened, and Alexander stepped out alone.
"I went to put Aimy to bed," he explained, noticing the questioning look on my face.
"Mrs. Alicia," Karen greeted politely.
"Karen," I greeted back, noting that she’d changed the way she addressed me.
"Mrs. Blackwood," the medical staff greeted with a cheerful smile. "It’s nice seeing you again."
I frowned, clearly not recognizing the familiar man...
