My CEO HUSBAND sign the divorce novel Chapter 292

Chapter 292: The choices we make.

Alexander’s POV

By the time we arrived in Velaridge City, night had already fallen.

A convoy was waiting by the private airstrip.

Alicia carried Aimy in her arms.

I had tried several times during the flight to carry the little girl for her, but she refused every time, holding Aimy as though someone might take her away.

I couldn’t understand it.

Back in Rosewood Town, she had trusted me enough to let me carry Aimy.

The moment we landed in Velaridge, however, that trust seemed to disappear.

Not wanting her to misunderstand my intentions, I stopped insisting and simply guided them toward the waiting car.

I opened the rear door for her.

She slid inside without a word.

I took the seat beside her.

The drive was unusually quiet.

Even Jim remained silent.

When he first saw Alicia at the airport, the shock on his face had been impossible to miss. Alicia, however, had been so focused on Aimy that she hadn’t noticed him at all.

Every now and then, I caught him stealing glances at her through the rearview mirror, as though he still couldn’t believe she was really here.

Since my new estate was farther from the city center than the villa Alicia and I had lived in two years ago, the journey took longer than usual.

From time to time, Alicia looked out of the window.

Confusion flickered across her face as unfamiliar streets passed by.

She never asked where we were going.

She simply remained silent.

Almost an hour later, the convoy finally entered the estate.

The vehicles continued deeper inside until they stopped before the last villa at the end of the road.

Even from a distance, the security was impossible to ignore.

Guards stood watch from the estate entrance all the way to the villa.

It stood alone.

Large.

Quiet.

Exactly as I had left it.

The only difference...

This time, I wasn’t coming home alone.

The security vehicles dispersed toward the garage while ours stopped at the front entrance.

I glanced sideways.

Alicia was staring silently at the villa.

One of the guards hurried over and opened my door.

Another stepped toward Alicia’s side.

I raised a hand, silently stopping him.

Walking around the car, I opened the door for her myself.

She still made no move to let me carry Aimy.

So I simply stepped aside.

She climbed out slowly, her eyes never leaving the villa.

"Shall we?" I asked quietly.

Only then did she look at me.

Without saying a word, she walked toward the entrance.

Her steps were slow...

Almost hesitant.

I pushed open the front door.

She paused briefly, taking in the brightly lit interior before finally walking inside.

The staff immediately noticed us.

"Welcome home, Mr. Blackwood."

"Welcome, ma’am."

Each person greeted respectfully before continuing on their way.

Yet every one of them stole curious glances at Alicia.

None of them recognized her.

They had all joined the household after she left two years ago.

"Mr. Blackwood, why did you return so la—"

Maria’s voice stopped abruptly.

"Let me take her upstairs."

Alicia instinctively tightened her hold on Aimy.

For a brief second, I thought she would refuse again.

Then her eyes drifted toward the staircase.

Finally...

She placed Aimy carefully into my arms.

I carried the little girl upstairs while Maria immediately wrapped Alicia in a tight embrace.

"Where have you been all this time, Alicia?" Maria cried.

"I’m sorry..."

Alicia’s voice broke.

"I’m so sorry, Maria..."

Their sobs echoed softly through the quiet villa as I continued upstairs toward the bedroom I had asked Maria to prepare...

Long before she knew who it had truly been meant for.

I gently laid Aimy on the large bed before sitting at the edge, my gaze lingering on her pale face.

I couldn’t help remembering how she had been in Rosewood Town, always smiling, always full of life.

A bad feeling lingered in my heart. Returning to Velaridge City did not mean I intended to let this matter go. Herbert had already given the police permission to conduct a thorough investigation of the Whitmore mansion. Whether an outsider had slipped in or someone inside had been used, I was certain the truth would come to light. Right now, that certainty was all I could hold on to.

Aimy stirred in her sleep, and I gently smoothed her hair, hoping to ease even a fraction of her discomfort.

My thoughts drifted to the day in the Whitmore mansion’s garden and to our conversation in the park. Alicia had asked me to let the divorce proceed.

I had wanted to speak to her about our marriage—to clear up the misunderstandings that had driven us apart. I wanted to tell her that I loved her and always would. I wanted to ask whether the traces of love I had discovered during her absence had truly been there.

But the moment she mentioned that promise from two years ago, when I had been too blind to see her pain and too consumed by Lilian to cherish her, all my courage vanished.

Only now did I understand why.

I had been afraid.

Yes afraid.

I was afraid of Alicia.

Afraid of hearing her reject me.

Afraid of losing her all over again.

Yet seeing Aimy like this made me realize something else: this is no longer only about Alicia and me.

There is a child between us, a little life that could be nurtured or wounded by the choices we made....
