Lucian hummed softly, waiting for Seraphina to continue.
"Melody won't just sit back," Seraphina said. "I have a feeling she's still plotting something."
"I'll look into whatever is happening outside the competition," Lucian replied, his gaze serious.
"I told you, no interfering with the competition," Seraphina said, shooting him a warning glance.
"I won't touch the competition," Lucian murmured, gently caressing the palm of her hand. "But if anyone tries to mess with you outside the arena, they'll have to go through me first."
Seraphina's protests died on her lips.
"You're going to make me dependent on you if you keep this up."
"You can depend on me."
"I don't want to rely on you for everything."
"I never expected you to rely on me for everything. I just want to stand by your side so you know I'm always here when you need me."
Seraphina looked at him, her heart melting into a puddle of warmth.
She leaned over and pressed a soft kiss to his cheek.
Lucian didn't let her pull away. "Not enough."
"What more do you want?"
He tapped his own lips. "Here."
"Lucian, don't push it," Seraphina warned, though a faint blush crept onto her cheeks.
"My wife won today. I think I deserve a little reward."
"I was the one who won, so why should you get a reward?"
"Because it was exhausting watching you from the sidelines."
"Sitting and watching a competition is exhausting?"
"I was tense. I was terrified you'd be upset if things didn't go your way."
Unable to find it in herself to refuse him again, Seraphina reached out, hooked her finger into his tie, and pulled him down.
"Just once."
"Deal."
Lucian agreed far too quickly, and when his lips finally crashed down on hers, he clearly had no intention of stopping.
He pressed Seraphina back against the leather seat.
Losing her balance, Seraphina's fingers instinctively gripped his tie. She had meant to push him away, but ended up pulling him closer instead.
His kiss was deep and demanding, pausing only when Seraphina's phone suddenly shattered the quiet.
She turned her head to break the kiss. "My phone... my phone is ringing."
