"That sounds like a you problem."
"Lucian, aren't you protecting her a little too much?" Evie complained.
Lucian glanced at Seraphina.
"She is my wife. If I don't protect her, who will?"
The line went dead silent.
Lucian hung up without another word and slipped the phone back into Seraphina's hand.
Seraphina stared at him. "You just hung up on her?"
"She didn't need to hear it twice."
"Aren't you worried she'll go crying to Grandma Eleanor?"
"She can try. Grandma will just tell her to hire a private pastry chef."
Thinking of how fiercely protective the old woman could be, Seraphina couldn't help but smile. "Fair point."
Lucian took her hand and pressed a soft kiss to her palm.
"Right now, I'm only here to spoil you."
The lingering annoyance from Evie's phone call melted away entirely.
"Lucian, if you keep this up, I really am going to get spoiled."
"Then be spoiled."
"And if I turn into a brat, will you take responsibility?"
"For the rest of my life." Lucian looked at her, the corners of his lips curving upward.
"Huh?"
Noticing the scenery changing outside the window, Seraphina looked at him in surprise. "Where are we going?"
"Aren't we going home?"
Lucian gently explained, "I got a call from a client earlier saying he and his wife had landed at the airport."
"He's a prospective partner for one of the Langford Group's new projects."
"Since he brought his wife along, I figured I'd bring you too so she wouldn't feel left out."
Lucian suddenly paused, his gaze fixed on her. "But if you really don't want to go, just say the word."
