Seraphina looked up, her voice dropping to absolute zero. "Philip."
"Did I say something wrong?" Philip leaned closer, planting his hand on the wall to fully box her in.
"A woman like you could marry anyone and live like a queen. Yet you threw yourself at a guy who needs someone to push him around. What a waste."
Seraphina swatted his arm away. "Your mouth is filthier than the water in that pool."
Philip's ego bruised instantly, and he dropped all pretense. "I can help you, Seraphina."
Seraphina scoffed in disgust. "Help me make myself sick?"
He took another step forward, lowering his voice conspiratorially. "Men play around outside. It doesn't threaten the wife's position at home. A guy like your husband probably isn't any cleaner than I am."
Seraphina's grip on her towel turned white-knuckled. "Don't you dare compare yourself to him."
Infuriated by the rejection, Philip's insults grew even more vulgar.
"What can he even offer you right now? Instead of wasting away in a sexless marriage, why don't you try things out with me? Who knows, maybe you'll finally understand the difference between a real man and whatever he is."
Without a second's hesitation, Seraphina's hand lashed out, slapping him hard across the face.
Philip's head snapped to the side from the sheer force of the blow.
He touched his burning cheek, his temper erupting. "You hit me?"
Seraphina shook out her stinging fingers. "I hit you because you deserved it. Do I need to schedule an appointment? Say one more word, and I'll do it again."
Philip lunged forward a half-step, but the realization that he was standing in a resort owned by the Langford Group forced him to stop dead in his tracks.
"Do you even know who I am? I'm a crucial partner in the Langford Group's upcoming project. One word from me, and the whole deal falls apart."
Seraphina stared at him and suddenly let out a laugh.
"Are you trying to threaten me with a business deal?"
"Scared now?"
Philip straightened his bathrobe, his confidence flooding back.
"Your husband desperately needs external projects to stabilize his position right now. Do you honestly think he'd throw away millions of dollars over a single slap?"
Seraphina shifted her gaze toward the end of the corridor.
"He wouldn't use business to threaten me, and he definitely wouldn't let me suffer for the sake of it."
Philip let out a mocking snort. "Women love hearing garbage like that. But the corporate world isn't a romance novel."
"She's right," Lucian's voice sliced through the tension from behind them.
Philip's smug grin froze instantly.
Lucian sat in his wheelchair, being pushed forward by Christian. His face was an emotionless mask, but his eyes were dark with dangerous intent.
Turning around to see him, a profound sense of safety washed over Seraphina.
Lucian barely spared Philip a glance. His eyes immediately locked onto Seraphina. "Does your hand hurt?"
